Aw man!
Never ever impersonate a federal agent to pull a snatch and grab on some guys chain! Anyways I really hope someone comes in with some knowledge about your DMX and not my DMX because I feel like this is just going to mudslide into a never ending 90’s rap reference theatre.
ex lampy here. I’ve used enttecs products extensivly. I dont reccomend the Open box because it lacks some important features like frame rate adjustment and buffer settings. Anyways, putting that to one side:
-
If you are not getting any dmx data at all it’s most likly the ftdi driver not being installed correctly.
-
Check the address per fixture matches the numbers you have patched in software.
-
If you are getting some data then it’s most likly a combination of the personality file in whatever 3rd party application you are using not matching up with the dmx mode your fixtures are set to. The fixtures you refer to have 3 different dmx modes. You may need to write your own pers file from scratch.
Difficult to help further without knowing what software you are using.
All of it. I’ve tried all of it.
Frankly, I’ve wasted too much time with DMXIS because, as I’m gathering, its pretty much exclusive to that particular associated enttec box.
Ideally, I’d like to reach a level of base understanding to use the M4L package to do everything within Ableton.
But all day I’ve been trying fresh approaches. Following the breadcrumb trail towards understanding of this new avenue and going nowhere.
So whichever software you’re familiar with(preferably cheap/free) to at least get me on my way of at least manually controlling these fangled lights- it would be a world of help and I would sing your praises for a week.
I just need something to accomplish to begin my understanding of this.
Thank you for your response!
I would personally reccomend avo titan one for a beginer because its fairly simple to use, runs the same software as the desks and has a ton of learning recources on youtube for self help.
If thats not an option for whatever reason, you could try QLC+. I’ve used that before Massimo created his forked version so i’m not familiar with whatever changes have come since, but it should work. Its not the easiest of interfaces, but you can do a lot with it and its free.

Qlc+ tuts on utube
I believe I’ve tried QLC+ but I was threaded in multiple different directions and dissuaded ny doubt that I didn’t bother scratching the surface beneath my initial failure.
But ill try avo titan. Simple is what I could go for.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’ll give that a go tomorrow, and if I can accomplish ANYTHING, you will be my favorite person in the forum!
Thank you so much for lending your perspective to my whirlwind of confusion!
OH MY GOODNESS! MY LIGHTS ARE FINALLY DOING SOMETHING!
Unexpected results, but that can be ironed out later…I’m doing something in QLC+ and the lights are responding to it!
THANK YOU! YOU’RE MY BEST FRIEND! IF YOU EVER GET INTO A FIGHT I’LL COME BACK YOU UP! YOU’RE THE BEST!
that’s how ruff rydaz roll.
Awsome. QLC+ can recieve midi, so when you can work out how to make a chase, you could trigger a chase with a midi note from ableton.
Okay! I’ve found a github repo that enables DMX control! Tested it out and we’re a go-go!
So much trouble and frustration.
For simple RGB control of lights:
- refer to lights manual
- the channel per function aligns with the channel of the slider.
- qlc+, turn on the interface.
- experiment with the sliders to ensure things work properly.
- once thats done and things make sense, here’s the repo for the VST I’m using
Copy the folder into your VST location(for windows its Program Files>VstPlugins or something like that)
Now that thats out of the way,I can get back to making music for the performance.
Hope this saves someone else from what I’ve went through
Y’all gunna help him move some lights up in here, up in here?
looks like its only the ENNTEC DMX Pro version thats officially supported by that vst.
Yeah, I upgraded my interface before getting your advice
But this is working. Its exactly what I needed! Thanks!
any Ruff Ryders in here have experience with Maestro DMX? i’m curious enough to buy and try but would like insight if available.
Holy moly thats pricey! I’d need a ton more lights to even consider investing in that!
Looks cool tho!
yeah, $750 is no joke and there’s not much for real reviews that i can find.
it’d be really cool, tho, if it all works as sold.
the lights i have now are about half static and half on random color changing mode.
