Any way to map all tracks to respond to a single MIDI channel?

Hi again,

I have tried to setup my new AR to receive MIDI note control to all tracks simultaneously from just one MIDI channel input, but cannot make it work. If I setup all the tracks to listen to the same MIDI channel, all the tracks play for any and every MIDI note!

Is there a way to make note range splits or something similar? What I basically want is to be able to use my AR as a GM drum instrument (ie. all drum notes incoming on ch 10, with diff notes triggering different sounds) in order to make external sequencing easier/faster…

If this is not possible, consider it as a new feature request

Cheers

Yes, the Rytm is a 12 channel drum machine, with chromatic implementation, so every track respond to different midi channel for play it chromatically. Would be cool to see one option for what you mention tho, but I think is out of the first idea of this machine, imo all the fun starts when you use each track chromatically :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You can’t assign different channels in your controller/software?

For argument sake: lets say you connect it to the octatrack. you would have troubles sequencing it. because you dont have enough midi-channels…
my mv8800 hardware sequencer… had 2 midi-outs… i used to drive a bunch of modules with it… machines that eat 12midichannels would leave little room for other devices… I would not be able to intergrate the rythm in that setup.

then again… u can get pretty weird midi-implenmentation-sheets, if you cram to much into to few channels…
for example. i wish my machinedrum was able to play chromaticly… instead of p-locking pitch…

one day that overbridge will come out… I am sure that be ace for everybody who likes new ways of working.
and kinda wanna drop out of a very big all hardware setup…

Afraid not (using a hardware sequencer) :frowning: And yeah, sure, I can blow 12 channels of MIDI to make a sequence, but frankly recording drums like that takes a lifetime when one is used to just fingerdrumming seq recs on the fly…

I’m still puzzled that since flexible MIDI mapping/processing/filtering is the norm in the software world, and pretty much a given as on how other equipment is designed, how come there are no equivalent hardware MIDI processors available? All that I’ve found are pretty clunky or limited (like 8 MIDI remapping controls max) or have too much redundant extras (like fullblown MIDI patchbays etc)? I know I know, I’m supposed to learn Arduino and go DIY but it would be nice to have a commercial alternative… This is why I consider flexible MIDI config features to be the responsibility of instrument manufacturers.

Not saying that I’d want a GM drum implementation as the default - the default behaviour can be the same as it is now…

what about de scenes and performance modes. they are controlled from a single midi chanel and indirectly control all drum tracks. thus is how i would control ar from the OT

Old post, but sharing anyone … this can be acheived with an MPC if you’d like to create a finger drumming interface for the rytm, mapping pads to differernt channels in one program / “track” in the MPC.

You can use any valid channel, just send notes on the lowest octave and you can trigger the default note on each of the tracks.

Hey there thanks for this info.

I have the opposite problem, is there any way to restrict the Rytm from receiving notes from the wrong channel?

To clarify: My Rytm is playing notes on Tracks I dont have any channel set to. Because I dont want them receiving midi notes.

The tracks I do want controlled from midi have midi channels assigned.

So far it looks like all pads/tracks will accept midi from any channel if they play in the octaves listed in your pic from the manual.

if you go to MIDI setup > CHANNELS you should be able to turn off the individual channels by selecting OFF instead of a channel number

Yes that’s the problem, they are off.

I only have four channels set to the four pads I would like to use, the rest are completely set to Off. This includes Auto Channel.

Yet they still receive notes when my octave goes too low.

For example:

Im using Pad/Track 10 which is receiving Midi Channel 3, if I send anything below G1, it will start firing other unassigned pads.

I have to carefully make sure not to send the wrong Notes or else ive lost all control over what goes where.

Hopefully it’s just an error on my part because I would love to use it correctly.
