It’s 48 because there are 48 pads, its also 48 slices when slicing up samples.
I don’t have it, but can you not use sample chains, or even loops containing different sample and slice them per pad?
Are you referring to actually loading previously recorded loops from the Cycles and trigger them from the tracker?
Regarding your previous question for techno live similar to Blawan, Pariah and Surgeon, did you take a look at the manual yet? I don’t have the machine, and I don’t know if it has some good capabilities like the octatrack has regarding live looping and warping, but I’m seeing a bit more like a tool to use for sequencing other instruments and also to sequence track with it, not only on studio but live, as I believe its performance mode can work wonders.
Sometimes taking a quick look at the manual helps understanding how it can be used, as many of us probably would have a different way to approach a techno live set.
On the other hand, if you would like to make something like an specific artist maybe an idea also is starting using the same tools as the artist uses.
Probably also worth checking this other thread:
You could have an extra number of banks of pads accessible in different fashions, let’s not pretend that the physical interface necessarily limits the software functions here.
You hold the instrument key, then press a pad 1-48 to quickly switch the selected instrument, I guess you could add banks, not sure what kind of button combo to get there tbh.
it would be mostly capturing shorter live loops from the cycles/modular and playing back 909 samples and some previously recorded pad/atmosphere loops.
took a short look at the manual earlier but will dig into it a little more tomorrow. thanks for the recommendations!
This is the magic of the tracker. You don’t need infinite time and infinite samples. It forces you to work with limitations and less choices and I’m totally sure that you can do great songs with it.
Yeah, they’re shifting them at £350 til the third.
Then we can all enjoy watching a bunch of optimistic chancers putting a bunch of them on eBay for £450 a pop once the price goes back back up.
Nice hyperbole. Nobody talked about an infinite amount of sample. You don’t need slicing or granular synthesis on a tracker either yet her they are on the PT. The heck you might not need a PT at all, just a free tracker on PC with that logic… I’m just pointing out one of the limitations for someone that is tempted to buy the product.
Wouldn’t work well for this at all, not enough sample memory. Not really what it’s designed for and, though possible to a limited degree, would not be any fun at all in practice.
Blackbox probably a better option, I think it’s what a lot of them guys are using these days.
The new 1.7 release (and the promise of more to come) makes this an even better deal. I love mine…unique workflow and it has been really well supported.
I am very much tempted. I had one and sold it and it is the only device I sometimes miss of the ones I have sold AND they have addressed the issues that made me sell it (clicks when sampling and headroom issues).
I hope to stay strong though, I want to simplify my setup and go for SP 404 MK2 and Syntakt (which I am planning to get from selling all the other stuff I own) only.
That sound like an Octatrack workflow.
In any case always worth taking a look at the manual, it has helped me lots in the past deciding or not for a music tool, plus forums and reviews.
I also saw a guy performing live using two PT for a techno live set ^^
Quick browse in youtube will bring you some results, same as looking for “techno live sets using PT”, but as usual, it may be down to the type of live you may have in mind.
Let us know how it goes, im curious about it too
Sounds like its just not for you.
I’ve never come close to the 48 instrument limit or ever thought of it as a limitation.
You can build a whole drum kit, tweak each hit how you want, then resample directly on the machine to a new slot and just play that sliced.
Hey guys, I have been working on tracker tutorials and then this update came out! I made a very brief video showing a few of the features that shows it in use if anyone wants to see. Tried to slave midi sync to deluge , with some interesting results - but it is working better than previous version!
I’m tempted.
I tried it before but I couldn’t face learning a new workflow at the time and my Tracker crashed twice in the first weekend so I sold it but I still use the handful of vinyl samples I recorded with it in my daw…don’t know why they sound so nice.
The killer drawback I think is having to render stems and then transfer using sd cards. If Polyend allowed you to transfer wav stems over usb (not even overbridge style daw recording) it would be an insta buy at this price.
Maybe that throws some light
The help on the page is also pretty cool
You can send midi to an external synth and sampling it, which is cool.
Indeed! This could be a game changer for me, as a tracker allows micro detail controlling per step, or even substep, and that related to MIDI can work wonders
I did order to my dhl packstation, but now they returned it?? I have no clue why this happend. This sale is only running up to 3.9 ?
