i still don’t understand the difference in between perf & scene mode… they both seem to capture several parameters under a pad? i don’t own a A4 btw so bare with me, but i do have an OT. also there is a difference with A4/OT since both scenes & perfs are playable via pad pressure on AR… definitely a new way of expression for this Elektron box…

how does the same same pad triggering two sounds work exactly?

the RYTM is an 8 voice drum synth but has 12 tracks, how exactly does this work and mean?

and when laying a sample can the drum synth voice be turned off? or does they both hit at the same time?

I know if I had one in front of me I’d “get it” but it’s puzzling me right now.

Another thing, its not important if the sound source is sample or synth. Its just great fun to have analog synth and sample in the same box and work it!

Also, keep in mind that the samples go through the analog overdrive, filter, and amp, so it’s not as if there’s a lack of sound sculpting options. Also, I’m assuming you can modulate stuff like sample start, loop points, etc. giving you even more modulation options.

With a bit of clever programming and smart selection of your source samples, you can probably create a wide range of sounds and performance setups you’d associate with 80s hybrid synths, wavetables, and classic samplers with analogue filters such as the Mirage.

Having said that, I’m still a bit sad there’s no way (yet?) to sample from the analogue inputs on the AR; I’d love to be able to sample directly from my other synths and then tweak further on the AR without having to get my laptop involved.

^ yes putting samples through the analog engine is a beautiful thing however sample manipulation itself seems pretty basic on AR, for deeper stuff & on-board sampling you’ll need OT…

i know it sounds confusing but it’s not that complicated: the synth engine has an 8 voice limit, but the sequencer allows 12 tracks/sounds. that just means you can’t play more then 8 sounds at once. i’m also pretty sure i read you can turn off a synth voice if all you want is sample playback (will probably still eat up a voice)

Performance mode is a bit similar to the Scene mode, but allows gradual control over the parameters assigned to the pads. The harder you press a pad, the more the assigned parameters will be affected. Performance parameters are possible to derive from the whole kit.

Performance mode is more like After Touch parameter changes. I don’t know how many parameters per pad, but probably a few. Therefore you can press several pads at once, gradually changing the different settings individually.
Scene Mode is like setting up a completely different drum kit for each scene. You could do subtle sound variations, or a completely new kit. Pressing a pad in Scene Mode will instantly change into the new settings. I guess one Scene at a time.

Wow. It might get totally crazy I wonder if they add the values of the active scenes or calculate the average.

The scene features sound deep and maybe even more simply implemented than on the OT… So can you p lock parameters in real time too, so it records the lock at whatever pressure your applying?
Also would be cool to be able to make the values step too (rather than a smooth morph) at a quantised setting!! …
I was thinking it would be more of something you would need to set up values for first but maybe Botha possible, sorry if I’ve missed that.
Either way is ace tho.

Scene mode doesn’t respond to pressure that’s what Performance mode does.

Thanks for the inspirational videos dataline. This might well be my first elektron machine and its a privilidge for the elektronauts community to soon get hands on it. Any chance of a tutorial video for us elektron noobs? (me)
