Analog Rytm freezes during startup

Hello,

During audio transfer using Elektron Transfer 1.9, the Analog Rytm became unresponsive. Since then, it freezes on every startup. It is possible to enter the service menu and run test mode; all tests pass and no errors are reported by the device. However, a factory reset cannot be performed because the unit freezes, the OS upgrade cannot be completed, and the device is not recognized by the PC via USB.

Then I received advice from Elektron customer care:

  1. Open Elektron Transfer and click on go to the SYSEX TRANSFER page and then OS Upgrade via device startup menu.
  2. Send the attached beta OS file to the device following the instructions in Transfer. Note that you need to send the OS to the physical MIDI IN port, via a MIDI interface (e.g. an audio interface with MIDI ports) as USB is not functional while in the STARTUP menu.
  3. Once the OS is installed, power up the unit normally. It will perform a file system scan to check for potential issues.
  4. If any issues are found, back up your samples and any important projects using Elektron Transfer before proceeding.
  5. Once everything is backed up, on the device, go to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > FORMAT +DRIVE, and check SAMPLES only.
  6. Allow the unit to format the sample area of the +Drive.
  7. Power off the device, wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
  8. Restore the backup.

I followed all instructions – the Analog Rytm started showing “Receiving” after I sent the firmware. The transfer showed “Send – Done,” but the Analog Rytm is still displaying “Receiving.”

I left it like this for about 60 minutes and it’s still showing “Receiving.” After restarting, it’s still the same freeze.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I’ve been waiting for a reply from Elektron for a week now, but so far there’s been no response.

i would suggest you to try and send the firmware using a different software which allows you to send MIDI SysEx messages, i use SysEx Librarian or MIDI-OX mostly which seem to work just fine (there should be settings somewhere that allow you to change the delay between each message, unless i’m mistaking this with something else/a different software… :grimacing: ); i’m not saying this will definitely fix your issue but you could give it a try in the meantime.

why are you sending a beta OS to the AR if i may ask?

The beta OS was sent to me directly by Elektron.

Today, after your comment, I tried it again and it started working — I don’t get it… What I had tried about 10 times before worked on the first attempt today.

Anyway, thank you for your energy :))

Any chance you or anyone could send me this OS file?

I just had the same thing happen to me after updating my RYTM mk1 to 1.72. I’m pretty annoyed, had the thing for nearly 10 years without a hiccup. Elektron team is off for easter, so if I could get it fixed sooner that would be a huge plus.

Many thanks
