A small jam I made for the jamuary. Been thinking about creating something more artistic using only the noise and impulse engines and I was just testing the waters with this one. It was fun and the sonic potential is definitely there with the AR mk2.
I was interested in your thoughts on this I’ve been eyeing up a RYTM myself but definitely the MKII because of resampling and multi outs. Bummer you had to shelve it for now!
All the really hands on performance features like scenes, perf & even direct jump for quick ‘fills’ seem pretty good for just banging out whole tracks.
Ive had the Rytm mk2 for a couple of months and I love the warm and thick sound with that fat bottom end.
The performance and scene options are just Lovely. Perfekt in a live context.
The only thing I miss from it is more flexible routing. T.i be able to route several sounds to the same out.
And maybe more flexible inputs.
Its all good though and it compliment my setup in a perfekt way.
One thing that I love about the Rytm is that the sample looping is detached from the triggering of the amp envelope. You can trigger a sample and have it loop forever in the background, changing speed and even direction with trigless param locks, and triggering its amp independently of restarting the sample playback. I don’t know of other gear that works like that.
One thing I don’t like is the way the amp envelope retriggering works, especially given the flexibility of the filter envelope. Though eventually I just got used to it, at the beginning it was a sore point.
Another thing I love is pinging the filter and doing all sorts of weird zapping stuff.
And finally, the FX having its own track is CRUCIAL for getting deeply funky. Use those slide trigs and like they tell the super models: If it can bend, bend it.
Direct Jump between patterns and the fact that KITS EXIST is so great. I wish Direct Start was a little tighter, maybe that’s a skills issue.
Yeah, that should be safe. I tried a similar thing with the Syntakt, except I fed the audio signal into the audio inputs, so as to achieve audio feedback. It worked fine.
You might have an issue with the signal being too low to produce meaningful results for modulation, but it’s worth a shot. If it’s too low, maybe try external amplification before routing the signal back in.
Another thing: using a complete audio mix will probably produce a «garbly» modulation signal. Maybe check if there’s a slewing function on the CV ins.
You could also use an individual output for the modulation signal. This way I guess it’s easier to obtain a cleaner / more controlled modulation signal. Probably easier to amplify the signal to match modulation depth without affecting the overall output volume as well.
Is the idea that you load these as a sample and then play back into the CV ins for extra modulation? I wonder if it works, would depend on whether the outs are DC coupled I guess. If not - perhaps sampling CV modulation at the inputs is possible too?
@Nils there’s no slew on the ins so audio rate signals come through very choppy.
