Analog Rtym sample directory help NEEDED! New owner!

Hi everyone,

Im a fairly new owner of the Rtym and I’m really enjoying it far having come from a totally DAW/Soft synth background. Since I’ve only really used the analog side of the machine so far I recently tried putting some sample packs into it to test out the sample capabilities. Not really being a gear head as such there are some things I’m really struggling with that are quite frankly pissing me off.

Once I open up up the sample folder in a new project, I can clearly see each individual sample pack. But, if I try and go back to go into another pack theres nothing there? I click the left arrow and select view ram to find nothing? The same happens when clicking view drive? So can I not select samples from different folders to be imported into the current project or even BROWSE multiple folders without having to load a new project EVERY TIME?

I really don’t understand why the process has to be so long winded. Why can’t Elektron make it so the Rtym shows up much like an external hard drive does when plugged in via USB, so that I can simply create folders and drag and drop samples where I want them and then access samples from multiple packs inside the machine? Especially when these machines have Overbridge technology that utilises USB?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

You can load samples from multiple folders to your projects. Either there is something wrong with your Rytm or you did something wrong. So you go to some folder and then return with the “…” and then everything is gone?

Wow - Just noticed from what you said that clicking the ‘…’ takes you back to the main sample folder. What a rookie error! Thanks man.

Good if that was the case. the folder behaviour can be a bit tricky in the beginning!

As you’ve mentioned a few times in your original post, you’re coming from a vst based experience context.

Hardware is very different. Each manufacturer has its own idiosyncrasies and sometimes these things only make sense, within the wider context of that manufacturers world.

Vsts and soft synths spoil us, as generally its all there in front of us, or hidden in a convenient drop down or something.

Just take your time, enjoy the learning curve and the process. This forum is a fantastic resource for all things elektron, with no real Jerks bemoaning the fact you don’t have an advanced degree in studio engineering, so don’t be afraid to use the search function and ask if you still don’t know the answer

You’ll get a much richer user experience that way and you’ll be able to apply some of what you learn to your next piece of hardware…which will be?
