Analog Keys as a VST sequencer

Forgive the newbie question. I did a search, but didn’t find anything.

Can the analog keys’ sequencer be used to control other VST synths (like a native instruments synth) inside a host application (like Cubase)? Does the sequencer generate any MIDI that can be used/recorded by a host sequencer?

My guess is not…but what do I know. I’m a newb.

It cannot sequence to external midi.

You can use it as a midi controller keyboard though. At the moment, the ARP function does not work for midi control sadly. I think it would be a great feature to add.

It can sequence to external CV - so if you had a CV to midi converter, you could potentially use the sequencer to control your DAW. However you would be limited to 4 CV channels (2 monophonic sequencing tracks of pitch and gate CV).

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that would be the case. I wonder if that’ll change with the Overbridge software they’re developing. Honestly, that’s the main reason I picked up an AK (shipping now). The price point is great, and the Overbridge software is what’ll make it easy to load up sessions with it.

Fingers crossed on future MIDI sequencer data.

Are there any Elektron products which generate MIDI data from the sequencer?

^ The Octatrack, for one, is highly specced as a Midi sequencer and a whole lot of fun for other audio duties

Machinedrum, Monomachine and Octatrack all sequence midi.

you could use the AK as a basic midi controller and midi-learn various paramters in your VSTs, but no you cant sequence midi from the sequencer. Like others have said the OT is perfect for this though

I knew the bits about configuring the controller to control MIDI parameters on a track, but I was really hoping to be able to sequence patterns into Kontakt or Superior Drummer and such. No worries though. If this turns out to be a stellar addition to my studio, I can see myself getting an Octatrack at some point.

Would the Octatrck and AK make a decent duo? It feels a little redundant to have both, but they’re very different machines so I suppose not. Is it easy enough to get their sequencers chained together and working well within a DAW? Not sure how many people have experience with this.
I’m hoping that the AK will get MIDI sequencing support with Overbridge, but I’m betting not.
