Analog four with Ableton Push aftertouch issue?

Hi.
I would like to use my Ableton Push to play some parts of a song but I am getting strange sound that I guess come from some kind of aftertouch or velocity conflict. Can I get around that some how?

Define “strange”. I found I had bother playing with Push if aabletons sequencer wasn’t running. If it was paused I was just getting very short notes. It certainly does work though I can’t remember my settings!!!

You can check your A4 Sound Modultion settings by going into the “Sound Settings” (Function + Sound). Here you can edit the modulation settings, velocity, pitchbend, mod wheel, breath, and aftertouch.

With strange I mean that if I press a pad on the push with normal or hard velocity i get like two tones rapidly after each other daa-daa like. If i press really gently i get the tone only once, as i can hear it anyway.
Turning off velocity to vol in sound settings wont help.
Using a normal usb midi keyboard with poly aftertouch (CME xkey) seem to work just fine without any jerky issues.

Sounds like something your Push is sending. Do you have Max4Live or some MIDI monitor that you can monitor all MIDI Messages?

You can use the free Vyzex Venom Editor software as a MIDI monitor (even without the Venom). It was based off of the old MIDI quest software.

You can probably trouble shoot from there once you know what messages your Push is sending. Compare that to the CME output which you know is good.

hmmmm… it does sound like something I encountered when pulling my set up together but to try and chat through what I did logically or in any sense would be impossible! I basically tried all manner of routings within Live as well as midi (I use an x-station, ipad and OT as well as the A4 so lots of ins, outs and thrus) and it cleared it up.
I think Krusty is on to something though. Likely some sort of conflict in the midi side of things but not sure.

I had a similar issue with a controller keyboard running midi thru into the A4. The MIDI out was to my soundcard.

With Abes open, playing a note on the keyboard, was sending a thru note to the A4, but the out, which was going back into the soundcard, was also sending the midi note info, which then went back into the controller keyboard MIDI in and then thru to the A4. Resulting in two midi notes with a tiny timing difference…

I’m still working out how I will fix this.

I’m still working out how I will fix this.

I use Reaper DAW, never Ableton, not for my type of compositions, which are not loop based at all. However, it sure sounds like you have what’s called a “midi loop” going on with double notes being triggered.

Yes Push can be tricky when it comes to aftertouch as there is no native way of setting its threshold.

Push is sending aftertouch info to A4 and I have no idea how to make it go away…

The latest public beta also offer an AT threshold via push.

Just use a Max device to mute AT or remove it from the modulation source on the A4

That’s exactly what I am doing at the moment with Live 9.17 too. Use the M4L device Midi Filter (MiDi FiLTER version 1.3 by dric on maxforlive.com) to turn AT off. Maybe it’s getting better with Live’s upcoming version 9.2.

Hey guys, I’m pretty sure the aftertouch setting is not the problem.
Try changing abletons midi settings in the MIDI Sync tab.
I think you want just track and sync on for the a4 out.
