Analog Four Noob Workflow Questions

Hello!
After being out of the music production game for a fair few years I decided to treat myself to to an Analog Four yesterday. While I have figured out generally how things work with it I have a few questions I’d like to put to other users of the device before I get stuck in any kind of self created dead end with the way I decide to store things.

1- is the +Drive write protected on the device? If I upload the sound packs is this where they end up? I’ve not really got my head around the way everything is stored just yet. Do i need to be wary of overwriting anything that causes repercussions to any other work down the file structure with this +drive?

2-Regarding song ideas. If I used this device to create 8 pieces of music (POM for the sake of this thread) how do I generally go about storing these on the device? Clearly the presets are stored as loads of single pattern POMs on the banks but really you are going to want quite a few patterns perhaps to get a finished POM. Storing your own work in this fashion seems crazy. Clearly just done this way to show off the device. Not much use as a workflow idea to my mind.
How do you guys do it? Do you dedicate an Analog Four Project to every single POM? Or would you (as I was planning to for the sake of keeping things simple) use a bank within a project to store a POM? That way I can have 8 POM per project with 16 patterns available for each POM.
Any pitfalls that immediately spring to mind with that kind of setup?

3-Can you copy a bank with all patterns and settings to another project?

All ideas and thoughts welcome. Glad to be an owner. This thing looks like its going to be a lot of fun once I get my head around it.

1 …confusing as fuck in the beginning… check sysex dump, select destination, make each sample pack a new bank (suggestion)
2) pattern a1 with kit a1 (you name it yourself) pattern a2 with kit a2 ( you name it, continue like the example)
3) probably, havent tried, … probably …
4) unwanted andvice from me:
you will not understand this complex machine in the first 2 months, if you think you do , you didnt …
record what you have produced Immediately ! … you will delete it , lose it, mess it up … this is a promise …
after say 3 or 4 month you could start getting a bit more serious … just unwanted advice, just my imho … just trying to help ya out before shit hits the fan :stuck_out_tongue:
welcome to the forum and the a4

  1. not write protected, but sounds can be right protected singly or per bank / drive very easily with < > menus in sound manager

normally adding sounds will not overwrite anything, it targets next free slot

sounds in the sound pool are the only things tied to patterns that you need to think about long term, if you change pool sounds then sound locks will go awry

Thanks. I’ve managed to install the sound packs to the +drive following your instructions in another thread. Great info there.
Ive created a blank project too. I managed to get a sound pack installed by dumping it to pool of A01 as well.

I’ve still not figured out how to load sounds from the +Drive to this new project though as it only seems to browse the pool. Very frustrating while it was blank.

How do I get sounds from the +drive into a blank project? I seem to have found the function>sound>view +drive command but all i get is “bank L is empty” with seemingly no option to get back to the lower banks.

there only is ONE +drive, available to all projects

in sound manager/browser if you see pool, use < to toggle the +Drive view !

I found that menu and the pool has sounds in it but when I do the < left to switch to +drive it just shows as bank L is empty. No option to switch to other banks. Odd.

Press L (or lit trig) to toggle all banks on or press any trig to select a bank, ie Trig1 = bank A of +drive

Do the trig buttons select the banks in this window? Good idea if that’s the case. I’ll check it when I get home. Thanks for your help. It’s always the simple things that can be missed. Doh.

Yep, Banks labelled A and up from Left, if you press the current bank (lit) trig it will toggle between All and Individual bank, quite neat indeed !
