Hey i just ordered an analog keys.
I want to get a kick drum trigger like the roland kt-10 and use it with the exp in to trigger a kick drum sound.
i know the expression in can’t trigger a track sound, but i was thinking i could have it trigger the filter envelope or the amp level in order to fake trigger the sound.
does anyone have any experience doing this or maybe have a better suggestion?
I’m not sure, maybe you could map expression control to filter cutoff and have it just immediately open and close but then give it a long release to shape it. Otherwise it might be better to explore a trigger to midi unit.
The KT-10 just outputs a small pulse, so it won’t affect the expression input very much. If you want to adapt it to an expression input you’ll have to build something like an external envelope generator.
There are trigger-to-MIDI boxes, but most are for an entire drum kit (and priced to reflect that). Maybe check second hand sites.
A DIY solution would involve building a trigger to MIDI with something like an Arduino. Or wire the trigger to audio and use an audio to MIDI conversion if your DAW can do that.
