An argument for the MPC Live II

What would you want to keep in a new box based on the original 4K? What would make it an MPC 4000?

Random thoughts on a new MPC 4000 vs. the original

It seems like some things the original 4000 did well are what a new version wouldn’t do, given that Inmusic would probably make the new box with the same code, converters, and analog output circuitry as the other current MPCs. The core sound of the 4000 (to my ear) was flatter, less exciting but maybe less hyped in the top and bottom frequencies. Also, the old 4k sequencer was reputed to be a reliable MIDI commander for other gear—I haven’t tried that. I can say that subjectively the 4000 sounds very tight in its timing. I like the Live’s timing well enough but it feels more like a good drummer, the tempo maybe sloshes around a little. Or I could be imagining this, lol.

for me, it would be just the original… everything including the screen… I always only wanted it to be sleeker, I hated it’s cakey-ness

Yeah a slimmer version- honestly the amount of space that thing took up was insane. Part of me loved tbe ridiculous size and it was a pleasure to use, but agree a modern slimmer version.

I reckon an MPC X style version with serious converters, capable of doing high end and low end sampling would prob be the business.

I would personally still love to see a MPC3k reissue. But accept it will never happen.

Also, on the 4K effects selection and quality was pretty weak, compared to the current models.

Not even playing in the same game… lol
