This only works that way when you have a mixer with inserts. Then you plug in the stereo side of the cable in the insert slot, one mono end to the fx unit OUT and one mono end to the fx unit IN. This basically gives you a mono delay with the timeline, which would be a shame.
If you have a mixer with aux sends, you can wire the timeline to the aux bus, and the left/right output of the timeline to the return channel.
If you don’t have a mixer, just route the audio to the timeline and then in your soundcard.
