Quick follow up, very happy with the mixer, hilt. Dry well, nice faders, phono amps sounds good to me, loads of gain, nice filter and very flexible routing on USB.

I have found a ton of uses for it… great as a sub mixer from bringing in iOS stuff…makes an iPad synth etc sound great with a little analog filter - usb to iPad and mixer main out to my main mixer.

Is it possible to connect two Elektron devices via the line input and add effects to them in Ableton? I’ve worked out how to use the Xone as an audio interface, but I haven’t been able to process the incoming signal. Do you guys have any advice for a hybrid setup?

You have to set your USB 24C to DAW mode.
You do this in the power-up menu (see user manual)

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried all three modes, but I couldn’t hear the effects. When I send the main mix to my computer’s output, I can hear the processed signal. It seems as though the mixed signal isn’t being sent to the Xone’s outputs.

a channel on the Xone can play:
-a line input (from the Digis)
or
-a USB input (from your DAW).

But it can’t play both at the same time (which is what I think you’re trying to do)

Maybe, you could set the Xone’s channel A to USB so that it can receive the processed audio from Ableton. Channel A would be a kind of return track.
I’m not sure it would work. I haven’t tried it.

From what I can glean, you would use ‘DAW’ mode (see manual for changing modes) where you would have DAW input channels for the two mixer channels. In your DAW, you would setup effects sends but send the output of those send busses to USB OUT 5/6 which sends the audio to the AUX channel on your mixer. You would need to gain stage the AUX channel and your sends accordingly.

I had a PX5 and, IIRC, you could set the SEND on the mixer to your DAW and the return would come back on the AUX. There was a switch or something on the back panel of the mixer to do this. But, there’s no sends on this mixer so you have to do the sends in your DAW and set the output to the 5/6 channels for the AUX.

yes absolutely! I prefer to buy USA and European quality made goods even if cost is higher.

If you wish to apply FX on just one channel, there is a workaround using the 2nd headphones output and turning CH A into an FX return track.

-connect 2 devices to Channel 1 and 2. (for example a Digitakt and a Digitone)

-The xone has 2 headphones outputs, you can use one for your headphones and the other one as an output that goes to an FX unit.

-select what you want to output to the FX by using the cue buttons (Ch1, CH2, CH1 and CH2, nothing).

-route the output of your FX unit back to ch A (line input)

-your Channel A now behaves like a return track for your FX. you can play the dry signals in CH 1 and 2 and the wet signal in CH A.

A few important notes to avoid a very nasty auto feedback loop
(only applies when you want to hear CH A)
-make sure your headphones “cue/mst” dial is fully set to “cue”
-don’t enable “split cue”
-don’t cue Channel A

If you don’t do that, CH A will endlessly loop back into the FX unit and you might damage your gear and your hearing.

Okay, I figured out how it works. I can send the channel with the effect signal to the aux channel. However, since the xone faders are pre-fader within Ableton, you can still hear the processed signal even when I turn down the fader. But there’s a workaround. The Xone’s fader sends out MIDI CC messages, and if I map these to the fader input channel in Ableton, I can simulate a post-fader effect.

Next, I want to try to see if I can replicate the Octatrack’s transition trick using Ableton’s looper and the Xone crossfader.
