I’m a newbie here, so hope that you could help me with something.
I was experimenting with MIDI arpeggiator and ended up somehow locking my Track 6 on the Octatrack.
Tried restarting and even copying and pasting ‘good’ tracks over the ‘stuck’ one - nothing helps. But! Pasting the bad track onto a good one makes the other one stuck as well
By ‘stuck’ I mean - can’t change any of the track’s parameters (level, amp, fx, lfo,) with encoders.
Strangely, parameter locks on the individual trigs do work.
It is an audio track.
I move the main level encoder - sound doesn’t change.
None of the remaining 6 encoders change any parameters on either Amp, LFO or FX pages.
But this only applies to one track!
I wonder if there is any legal condition that would ‘block’/‘lock’ pages in such a way.
If not I will try to re-create the issue from scratch and will post the description.
Too bad I won’t be able to reclaim my tracks back in that particular project.
if you parameter lock stuff, and use it in a scene. results may not always be what you expect. Same as scenes block realtime control, if that control is in the scene…
the manual explained it in programmers terms. kinda like
if you do this and do that, the result is…
So what happends when you change scenes, or clear scene… will it unlock?
Are you receiving midi from another device? If so unplug midi in. If that fixes it, reconnect & go into the menu. Function + Mixer/Midi/Control/Audio CC & remove the ‘X’.
See page 41 of the manual
If that doesn’t solve it can you give more details
Cheers
Edit. Yeah as the Dreammer says, have a look at Scenes too, could be you’re overriding the parameters there?
First of all - Happy New Year! It must be a sign of true dedication that you respond to threads like this one one a NYE
I have tried both:
Muting/changing the scenes doesn’t help
Removing all ticks from CC and Note checkboxes didn’t help either
Also, now all tracks are locked up like this (luckily, still within one project).
Is there a way to share project files easily? Perhaps I could just give it to you so you could see if the same is happening on your units, if you are interested!
Not so keen on loading other peoples project files… maybe others would.
but: did you by any chance do things in the midi-sequencer part of your octatrack… something was weird, if I used a midi-channel in the midisequencer that was also used by the audio-part of the octatrack.
for example : my octatrack on midi-channel 1… while that one was also used for track1 of my octatrack. once I set the midi-channel in the midi-sequencer. the audio-channel didn’t completely work as expected.
I just forgot what happened… but I think it was similar to your experience.
anyways… the misses wants to go to the pub… so I got to go 2.
happy new year… be safe…
muting the midi-track did not matter:
if you choose a midi-channel that is used by the octatrack in the midisequencer, something went wrong… you have to choose a non-used midi-channel, to make it work flawless (assuming that your thing is this… )
Go ahead and open a support ticket… and well… If you really think it will make your day, and your project isn’t to big (less then lets say 200-300mb) u can always send me a link via pm… and I will have a look for you… why not…
Thank you for your advice.
Sadly, I haven’t had a chance to set up any scenes yet in this particular project. I am familiar with how they work and can confirm: no scene automation is present. Both A and B scenes are also muted.
Just wanted to say that I have managed to unlock the tracks somehow!
Since I got them into that state by playing with arpeggiator triggering chromatic notes, I guessed that I must have switched some setting via MIDI protocol (as some notes are used for that in OT).
So I have:
Connected MIDI OUT to IN
Enabled EXT + INT for both NOTE and CC messages
set the tempo right down and placed a few MIDI trigs
Then started the sequencer and slowly started changing the pitch of MIDI channel
Suddenly, all the usual tracks have unlocked. Very weird, but I’m happy that it works now. Was quite desperate - even tried doing a HEX diff for bank files, to see what is different between a working and a bad project.
Im having the same problem. Earlier I was able to use the crossfader to adjust the volume from 0-127 with two scenes. But when I turned on the OT today suddenly the crossfader doesnt do anything, and when holding down a scene button and trying to turn the encoders none work except volume min/max… And when not holding down a scene button I can not move any track parameters… it is like OP stated. Its like I have managed to “lock” the tracks somehow… This is true even when nothing is connected to the Midi in on the OT, thus Midi overloads shouldnt be the issue… Have anyone else noticed similar behaviour…?
Haha, I was on the verge of saying: “Damn this, I stopped using laptops live because I wanted to get rid of the chance of something crashing”. But it was not the Octatrack that was to blame here. It has its way of oversmarting its user
