All Three Digis or Octatrack with two?

Are you doubting the word of Buad?

Heresy.

Definitely the OT.
It will broaden your horizon in a way that’s unparalleled.

It’s good to have all of those midi and audio processing tools at your disposal.

Well it may have just been my experience. However 850 for a used OT mk2 with a decksaver, 2 faceplates in excellent condition is a bit less than 3/4 of 1500 new.

It was likely that I wasn’t accepting returns or my OT now has a face that maybe only a Mother could love as reason for people not willing to take the plunge. It doesn’t seem like people are quickly pulling the trigger on dropping a grand for a used OT at the moment. Even the OG OT is on reverb w/accessories for a low price without takers.

For anyone looking at it, it’s probably more the people who can afford or feel better paying full price w/the 3yr warranty or a return policy attached that are buying it. Not so much for used. This instrument demands a lot if your really going to ‘own’ it.

On the one hand I’m glad it didn’t sell, while at the same time I’m going through resampling and learning how to approach a live remix I want to do of an aphex twin track, and just getting stumped on figuring out that I was hitting the wrong ‘REC’ button to manually resample internally has me feeling like I’m just too stupid to use it.

But I figured it out, and now I’m moving forward. It’s like dating a really smart woman. Your going to hit the wall at some point and just feel inferior but you keep coming back for more b/c damn if you don’t love the fact that she challenges you to step it up.

I agree that reselling Elektron stuff is easy when priced right.

I do have some very well priced Elektron gear I’ve been watching on my Reverb feed that has been sitting there for some time. Gear in general looks like it has slowed down a bit in the “middle of the road” price market.

I use DN/DT both going into OT AB and CD.
I usually sequence from OT MIDI tracks single cycle waveforms on DT (And 2 LFOs on each DT track). Gives me a lot of potential for ramdomness (quantized to a key) from OT.
I actually don’t sequence the Arp on OT but quantize it to a key and address LFOs in OT to various destinations and using probability on tracks.
DN serves me more like a pad/ambient machine.
I also use DT for granular and basic kick/hats/perc.
OT as mixer with various parts/scenes as well as MIDI sequencer.
I like this setup as each machine is really dedicated to a task, but each with a similar way of working. So less muscle memory at my old age
I cannot speak for syntakt but these 3 machines are very powerful. The only thing I can say is I would not see fit/useful changing any of these 3 and replace it with a Syntakt.
Also made me sell my other synths to concentrate on 1 workflow.
I have added a Torso T-1 to sequence DT/DN/A4 but this is another story.

I would like to hear your music @vasidudu. That randomness/generative approach is talking to me.

That’s absolutely my favorite part about the OT.
Stacking fx with neighbor tracks and making incredible multi fx for the crossfader.

There’s no other piece of hardware that creates the kind of magic the OT does in this way.

You literally play filters, delays and reverbs with various EQing and lofi crushing.
It’s marvelous, endless fun and totally customizable to taste.

Octatrack > Syntakt > Digitakt

I bought Octatrack several years ago over the then new Digitakt and don’t regret it. I bought a Digitone and Analog Heat recently and plan to get a Rytm or another godlike drum synth to complete my portable home and live setup to complement my modular synths.

I don’t record anything usually but will post some of it if you want to have a listen.

Currently own OT + DN which is a killer combo already and more than a handful. I will say I’ll probably get a Syntakt at one point to join the fun because I love me some synthesised drums + ‘THE WORKFLOW’

if you want stereo samples OT is the only option.

I posted recently on another thread…

I’ve got Octatrack, Digitone Keys, and Syntakt. I’ve used all the modern Elektron boxes and the one I miss most is a Digitakt even though I have it covered. I am greatly debating adding the Digitakt back to my setup, I don’t know why, but I just miss it even if the Octatrack does it all. It doesn’t do it all, it can’t be an actual Digitakt… interface, warts, and all.

I think I’m going to inevitably collect all the Elektrons. They really don’t lose their value, it’s not remotely a sunk cost, it’s more like a borrow with wear depreciation at worst if you don’t destroy it.

If it’s between DT and OT, I’d definitely get OT first, but rapidly supplemented by a brand spanking new DT.

I bought my OT before DT came out and no regrets other than the larger size. The faders, scenes and arranger are killer features missing from the other Elektrons and unique to Octatrack.

Given a 10yr period during which technology improves and general design changes, or let’s say 10-15yrs we can assume most Elektron boxes will be upgraded int/exterior-wise, aren’t the used prices gonna be lose like 50% of their value? But short term, I agree with you.

Yea that’s true.

What were the original prices of the Monomachine and Machinedrum accounting for inflation? Hopefully once they’re discontinued they’d rebound again over a longer period as they become scarce on the market.

As I said I’m mostly collecting them at this point and I did mean short term in case you buy one and don’t like it much after a few months, which shouldn’t really happen because they’re all just awesome.

Had all of em. Still have the 3 Digi setup. It really depends on what you want. I didn’t like using the OT as a mixer, and it just didn’t fit my workflow. I much prefer the 3 Digi boxes with the DT for drums/samples, ST for synths/drums, and DN for synths. Plus, they all fit next to each other nice and pretty

Both for me, I kept OT and ST only, sold other Elektrons.
