Akai MPC One [ Retired : Search for MPC Thread ]

Just speaking on my experience so far… at first I would have totally guessed that I’d prefer the internal storage vs. USB or SD card. I mean, it makes sense that internal should be ‘better’ in some way for sample storage, right? However, in practice, I’m greatly preferring the SD card for all of my samples and programs.

Why? Well, with the SD card, I just pop it in and out to add samples. I find it much easier to stick it in a card reader already hooked up to my computer and copy things over. Also, file management overall and organizing things after the fact is much easier manipulating it on the computer. With the internal storage, I’d have to hook the MPC up to the computer via USB and use the Akai software or via the network port (unsure on how this works). In comparison, the SD card is just easier with a workflow most people will already be familiar with and understand.

Like others have commented, it’s dead simple to go right to the SD card or any USB device from the MPC management interface. It’s one of the things I’ve been pleasantly surprised about.

Thanks for the feedback! Just found a 4GB SD so I’ll try it later.
Just got mine and first impressions are that I’m a bit underwhelmed with the plastic casing. Coming from the sturdy MPC1K, DT, and SP404 I find the “light” plasticky feel a bit meh.
BUT, from what I have seen so far and that’s not much I’m loving the user interface. That screen is bonkers!!! Can’t wait to get into it properly later tonight

Am curious on the build quality and how it compares to the Live.

I’m probably a bit harsh. Really it’s just the top/front casing. Knobs and buttons feel sturdy as hell otherwise.

And those old MPCs where HUGE.
Dig the new size. :+1:t6:

I feel like the dream machine I’m looking for is a Digitakt sequencer with same build quality, but with MPC Live/One sampling capabilities and file management. And then throw on some Maschine MK3 or Live type Pads. Big ups on the SD card too as that just makes life easier in so many ways.

I just cannot stop using the MPC ONE to sequence the iPad. It’s like it’s made for this relationship

Which SD cards are you using guys? I think I messed my SD up by over complicating trying to mount it from within the mpc to the laptop like it works on the Live. Turns out this process doesn’t work yet on the One! I only realised at at 1am  (nearly went insane)

So I want to start from scratch. I read some people have managed to make their SDs work straight away transferring files from the mpc to the laptop, and back.

If this is your case, which SD model are you using? And was it brand new? And finally, did you have to format it in any way before making it work?

Please be as descriptive as possible  as I want to make sure there is no issue with my unit.

Thank you very much!!

False alarm, everything works!!! I just over complicated things  That MPC Live formatting card YT video got me thinking the One was the same.

No need to do that, just use you SD card like you would between 2 laptops.

And now… BEATS

(that is after I put together my 3 y old’s new bed… take her out of the house for lunch and to a bday party… aaaah the weekend).

How do you connect the iPad with the MPC? I guess the ipad cant controlled over USB-MIDI from the MPC, right?

It’s all routed through my focusrite audio interface so Midi is handled by it over USB.

Sounds amazing! It’s crazy the different uses this machine has. Can’t wait to get into it properly, tonight hopefully!

I would like to see a video explaining the apps and overall setup if you’re ever interested in making one. I’ve pretty much ignored my iPad as a music device but your videos are very inspiring and intriguing!

Now that I’m a bit more comfortable with the MPC i plan to do a quick setup video on how to use it with AUM and NanoStudio 2 on the iPad with the ONE.

Very nice :+1:t6:

Has anyone used the CV tracks to trigger eurorack drums? I’m curious to hear some feedback on the experience. I noticed there no clock out but I suppose one could send clock video midi.

Simply having too much fun with this darn sequencer. Here i am sequencing SunVox and Playbeat on the iPad:

General questions about the new MPCs. In controller mode can you use the MPC software as a VST in a DAW or is it strictly it’s own standalone DAW? I’m curious what the workflow is when mixing in another DAW. Would it make more sense to just export stems? I’m assuming they have an automated process for this built in?

YES! I like :+1:t6::+1:t6::+1:t6:

There is a VST component to it, yes. I’m still very new to this and have only (very) briefly tried that aspect of it. For me it’s been more fun workflow wise to treat the MPC as a standalone device. If I wanted to use it with the DAW extensively I’d probably treat it like any other hardware. But again, it’s very much a YMMV thing and individual preference. I’m still way too new to it but those are my initial thoughts.
