Akai MPC Live Mk II

I get a real sense of camaraderie with those that enjoy and appreciate the new Mpc’s.

I totally get that workflow is everything and not everyone gels with the Mpc way of doing things but I get a little gobsmacked when people run them down.

I feel you
Bought the Live 2 quite early to replace my old and trusty OT and I’m having so much fun!
For some time I tried to gel with Ableton + Push2 but I just wasn’t make any good music. With the Live 2, I feel like having a real “mini-Daw” with many well-thought features.
And, a big plus for me, sampling and working with samples is so much more fun and productive than working with the OT…

I totally get that. I have an OT but just can’t let it go. Going to enjoy bouncing back & forth when the mood takes me.

Thanks! My opinion on workflow is that having different workflows leads to different compositions/arrangements/sounds. More work, and more reward. But between the OT and Ableton, I bet you’re plenty set for great inspiration!

Thank you.

I really felt the Force would add extra
dimensions to what I’d like to do going forward.

I’ve been really happy with the Octatrack/Mpc combination and this feels like pushing it further.

Is there any word on what to expect in the next
update?

Edit: found this.

Q: but will they fix the core issues that have persisted forever?

I think it comes down to what people want to do with it and how they like to work…not just workflow wise, but what is their creative process.

I have moments where I love my MPC Live, but to be honest, most of the time I’m frustrated with Akai for not having put more effort into the machine’s UI / UX to make it more immediate and tactile. Then I realise that I have a few particular needs that the MPC just doesn’t cater to EASILY (or as easily as an Octatrack or SP16 does) and that maybe that’s not what it was designed for either.

I think in general, gear should be judged from an individual perspective rather than a global one, ie “I don’t like the MPC Live” vs “The MPC Live sucks.”

I’m happy to read when people love their gear and are inspired by it, I wish that upon everyone, no matter the gear

That was excellent.

I use the OT and MPC live in tandem. I found a good balance with the two. I use the OT to manipulate samples then feed that into the MPC and build programs off that.

That was my original hope and plan. But I had so little time to dedicate to music and learning them that I had to choose.

I have a Force now and I’m beginning to feel more confident and comfortable using it. I’m starting to see that once I have a good working knowledge of it I could possibly incorporate something else.

Don’t think I’d ever get an OT again, but a Digitakt would add enough of the Elektron magic.

I just ordered a Live 2!
I’m pairing it with my ARmk2, Mother-32, Subsequent 37, Microkorg, and an analog delay pedal.

Any tips on what would go well with these for House/techno or also Hip-Hop?
I’m talking polyphonic synths, effect pedals, or any good addition you’d try for 900USD tops?
I’m also running Ableton but i want to make a standalone live set.

Digitone is an awesome choice and cheaper then $900.

That looks so much better

That looks much nicer. The one thing I didn’t like about my MPC Live was the weird rubbery black case. I can’t tell if this is the same material, but if it is, it looks far nicer to me with this colour scheme. I miss my MPC Live… and if I bought another, it’d be this one.
