Damn, I saw 5 new messages & the first was a screen shot, I thought a new Force OS came out.
@Passenger_3 Welcome to the Darkside. You sound like a well informed consumer. Like you already know love it. That’s one lucky Force to have a owner like you. You did the research people would when adopting a child.
Congratulations!
Oh yeah! That’s my good dude Joe. I’ve been posting his videos since first started making Force demos. Joe & Conan aka the Crates Motel on YouTube are amazing.
Also check out Nicethings. Dude got tons of demos. I posted many dope videos on the Force page on reddit & MPC-Forums.com.
This is an extremely helpful breakdown of what did and didn’t work for you! My irritations with the Push 3 occasionally make me daydream about a force. The frustrations you’ve listed here would probably be dealbreakers for me, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
According to my Akai beta test “contact”, many - if not most - of these issues will be addressed in the next BIG Force OS firmware update. But you’re probably looking at early/mid 2024 before it’s released. Should probably stick to Ableton Push 3 if waiting is an issue.
That’s one of the reasons I’m keeping my Force. I scored such an insanely good deal on one (brand new in the box) that it would be a crime to get rid of it. That said, I’ll see how things pan out in early/mid 2024. If said contact is blowing smoke up my ass and the things they told me about don’t come to fruition, then I may let it go. But everything they told me about ahead of the past 3 updates were exactly as they said, so - crossing my fingers! Lol
Just picked up a Force from Amazon warehouse for a killer price. Excited to join the Force family again! (I got one in 2020, but realized I didn’t need it when I was trying to make ends meet during quarantine, so it was sold.) I’ve been doing live sets and just using renoise/midi twister and a single hardware synth (which one, it varies). Hoping to create sets on the Force and just jam out on that with a hardware synth.
Welcome back!!! Akai has some great plans in store - you came back at a great time! And like Poetic Noise just said, it’s a completely different machine as of November 2023. So many new features and bug fixes have came out since 2020. Enjoy!
I’ve assigned different incoming MIDI channels to different tracks, but my Force somehow ignores it all and only sends MIDI to the current track. Is there a way to use it as a multitimbral sound module?
I suspect that you told Force to do exactly that, by going into Preferences>MIDI and making one of your devices the Master or Control or whatever it says on “Input”.
That selection overrides the track channel input selection and, ahem, *Forces MIDI input to the currently selected track.
Yeah that was my first issue, before disabling the “Global” setting it was sending all the MIDI channels to the active track. Now that I’ve disabled it, it only sends the correct channel, but only when the track is selected. So if I select a track with Fabric Piano that is set up to listen to channel 13, it plays MIDI from channel 13 and ignores the other channels, but all other tracks are silent.
However, I made a pause while I was typing this comment and figured out how to fix it. Turns out, opening sequencer preferences and changing rec arm behavior to multi allows using multiple tracks simultaneously.
So, to sum up, to drive multiple tracks on the Force with external MIDI (basically using it as a multitimbral synth/sampler module) you have to:
The track monitoring section in the mixer is important, too. In the mixer, select the I/O tab. AUTO needs to have the track rec armed to hear anything, then it’s like IN.
Downloaded 3.3.0 - not seeing the new Air FXs. In mixer view I’m just trying to add effect to internal plug in (Hype), I see all the old Air/Akai FXs but not the 3 new ones mentioned. Info screen does confirm 3.3 successfully installed.
Probably overlooked something simple…
