Forgot some subs :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: The AK is pretty special.

Iā€™m a thrilled new AK owner.

I did demo the DSI P12 before I purchased the AKā€¦ The P12 just did not do it for me sound-wise. I coaxed some sounds I quite liked out of it, but it felt like work to find the places that pleased me.

The AK sounds superb for me. Everything I do with it just hits the spot.

Now maybe if DSI took the new filters from the Pro2, the sequencer, and made it polyphonic and multi-timbral, I might be interested in itā€¦ but not as an AK replacementā€¦

I own a P08 and have a tough time parting with it. Stacking the 8 voices gets a dirty sound that i just cant reproduce elsewhere. However the knobs did go south and i needed a full on motherboard and solider job to get it working again. I have 3 machines from elektron and love them all. Great build and good service.

People considering the Pro 2 should be aware that the second hand/refurbished price for the Prophet 12 on ebay is only 200-300 dollars more than the pro 2.

Say what you like about the DSI sound, but the Pro 2 and Prophet 12 are easily the most aesthetically pleasing synths around.

Still waiting for a Sub 37 lmtd Edt I ordered some months ago and which should arrive in the coming days. Will let you know you how it feels vs the Analog Keys (and how AK will pilot the Sub37 with its CV out).

Concerning the Pro2, I could figure out the overall feeling a little bit by comparison with my Prophet 12. Actually I can agree with some of the comments concerning DSI products here above, sounds are indeed thin sometimes (probably the Pro2 will boost the low end). But one you go inside the modulation and sound crafting possibilities it is an incredible machine too. Finishing is solid and knobs are very good. Keybed of the P12 has a slightly lighter touch than the AK.

But yes, without any doubt I still prefer the AK as being a more allrounder (Midi controller, sequencer, CV etcā€¦). Maybe just lacking Midi out sequencing;-)

I often wonder why people expose their own programming weaknesses?
and
How do people become so blinded, either by hate or fanboizm?
Iā€™m dumbstruck

How long you going to keep beating that dead horse of hate for dsi youā€™ve got?
It laughable for us and sad for you.

Ill bite I guess - Im allowed my opinion and to express my experiences am i not? ANd im clearly not the only one with a poor view of DSI. I think you might be overstating the gravity of all this - ie 0c. ā€œhateā€ is a bit much - i dont really care that much about it

I have some DSI gear and have to say that Dogma is generally wrong about build quality. True - there was once a problem with some encoders, but build quality has been excellent apart from this. DSI is a smaller company than Elektron, and even Elektron has been prone to parts failure and manufacturing issues.

Oh really?
Years ago you had issues with dsi unit, okay post about it, but surely after youā€™ve made your point youā€™d move on?
Its like youā€™re still bitching about a partner who dumped you 5 years ago, no one wants to listen to that, even your best friend.

The only problem Iā€™ve had with my DSIā€™s was the encoder issue for my PEK, which Iā€™ve fixed with the POT upgrade kit. Donā€™t want to minimize the severity of that problem (it was baaaad), but apart from that Iā€™ve had 0 issues with my PEK or my original Desktop Evolver and Mopho (both of which have been sold). DSI gear is solidly built.

Yup really. Whats the length of time got to do with it? I think you embarrass yourself with fanboyism, Im allowed an opinion and allowed to post it just like everyone else. If you don like it - bad luck. Move on. Im sure its not that difficult for you?

pathetic and sad

My Mopho X4 seems to be a solid build and iā€™m sure when I have my Pro 2 that will be too. I think it will compliment the Analog Keys very nicely tbh.
Each to their own though, whatever works for you, itā€™s all good.

Rob

Tempest owner here, mine is and has always been solid as a rock hardware wise. Iā€™ve owned it since December 2012 and have never had an issue with it.

The software has at times been buggy but the version I am running now is mostly all good. Just really minor stuff, nothing that would make me not recommend a DSI product.

As for the P2 vs AK, I donā€™t think they can be compared apart from price which is vaguely similar. The P2 looks like a far more complex synth voice with a much more simple sequencer. So Iā€™d say the AK is your best bet if you want a nice analog synth with an incredibly good sequencer, whereas youā€™d probably want the P2 if your priority is an incredibly complex synth with a pretty good sequencer.

Personally Iā€™d like to have both if I had the room. I really hope Dave puts out a module version with that sequencer. It would be brilliant with my Tempest!

I have plenty of minor annoyances with DSI gear but build quality isnā€™t one of them. The well-documented encoder problems are a good 5 years old now. Itā€™s telling that they havenā€™t made an all-encoder interface since. Iā€™m sure they regret not going with pots to begin with.

I suspect that the AK will be a better standalone instrument and sequencer, more versatile and able to sequence an entire song by itself. The Pro2 may well have a better synth engine and extensive sequencing of external gear via CV and MIDI but itā€™s still monotimbral and the sequence is linked to the sound. On paper theyā€™re kinda similar but I think theyā€™ll be completely different to actually use.

Fanboys are simply the worst

dude get a life - get off the computer and go hug a sentient being - dog, cat. let them embrace you and the negativity should wash away. Unfortunately people would rather have a crack at the person and not the issue. Thats sad and pathetic
