Hello all,

Has anyone replaced one of the keys on an AK? Something just fell on mine and broke a G key. So so annoying.

I need to get it fixed urgently. I’ve made a support ticket with Elektron to find out where to get a replacement key, but I was wondering how hard it’d be to try and take apart / replace it myself…

id expect its quite straightforward , there are many youtube vids about keyboard repairs for other synths , I’d suspect the mechanisms on analog keys is quite similar to many other keyboards. unlikely to be any specialist knowledge , just a screwdriver and confidence to do it. (i could be very wrong though)

elektron are usually pretty good with spares too.

it he short term you might be able to just swap the broken one with a note you rarely use (like top most white key or something).

Yeah, I took a Microkorg apart before: to get to the pot I needed to service meant unscrewing and removing basically every component… I’m hoping it’s not quite that tricky to do this, but it’s a more complicated instrument, so it probably will be!

I got a thing a guy made called underbridge to protect the gaps at the bottom of the keys. They still protrude a bit but offers some protection. No idea if there’s any still available though…

Hey folks i have a lil problem my C2 Key (or the 2. C on the keyboard) has another velocity than all other keys. its much more sensitive which makes it kick out sound very loud which is pretty annoying. i think it is a hardware problem. Any suggestions how to fix that?

Hey. I could fix the problem buy taking the whole thing apart and cleaning it. Its not that difficult to open but there a millions of screws and it takes some time. There are these little rubberbands that are closing the contact. I washed all of them and cleaned everything now the keyboard is as new.

Yes i finally did that too, i unscrew one million and one screws then gently removed the rubber band where my faulty C key was, blow some air, clean a bit and put it back togther: worked !

I did it twice actually cause after the first time i got a velocity problem on another C key, so 2 million screws to unscrew
Actually i’m so glad this hardware is that straightforward, okay theres a lot of screw but nothing fancy.

Love this design.

Your welcome. Happ for u that it works again. Any secrets to reveal about the ak? I often use the hp with resonance to boost the sub. Made a lot of presets for chords and stuff but didnt messed wif it for a while and feel like i forgot how to get the cream out if the ak.

I’m pretty new to Elektron tbh and new to AK.
To be honest i got this unit as a “defect” from a store ($249) and i bet i could fix it to sell it (just bought an A4 mk2 and Octatrack mk2).
Anyway, long story short i was about to sell it and i stumbleupon this video from MrDataline (love his work):

And decided to keep it. Basically it cost me “nothing” so i’m losing the profit i could make with a sell but i’ve got remorses haha…

My favourite elektron mashine is definitly the mashinedrum. I love doing sounddesign wif it. I am not producing 4 on the floor stuff so use it often for percussive loops or breaks ins my tracks. Never heard of dataline tbh. I dont love the ak but the sequencer and just for that i couldnt sell it. Got a keystep pro like it but the ak as cv sequencer is much more powerfull. U can even seuqence glides and accents and send everything thrw midi or cv. I use the fx channel as a midi out channel.

The oil filled capacitor don’t pop, they leak and continue to work, as i am aware. They can be as small as half a pack of cigarettes, but no smaller. Again i really doubt this is the source.

Oil ?
Not that i can recall.
The start of the key (inside the AK) were a bit greasy but i think i a good and healthy/normal way for a mechanical moving part.
