This definitely opens up a few ideas for scene name conventions mixed with strategically placed favs to navigate sounds quicker. Hoping to give it some focus over the weekend.
Thanks.
How long are you getting on battery?
I can easily get 10+ hours on the AE-Go with 3300 mah
On AE-20 just 3-4. It’s super hungry. I’ve dimmed the screen and shut off the external speaker still eats through battery pretty fast. I’ve also noticed the battery indicator displays the wrong value some times. It can show just 2 bars left but if I shut it off and back on, it’ll show full for several minutes before going back down to the real charge amount.
6 hours with regular eneloops. I think if you are doing tons editing/saving/switch presets it probably burns it a little faster.
That makes sense. 6 hours is expected but it does specifically note continuous play.
I get 6 hours if I’m just playing.
Uh are you using Lithium? They only take NiMH.
Nope. https://a.co/d/eej2GTk
Was skeptical about that number myself. Skepticism validated. I highly suggest avoiding them despite great ratings.
Both Amazon and EBL 2800 mah rechargeables last much longer.
Questions about the Parameter Guide:
Is SuperNATURAL Control2, aka Growl, just an on/off parameter or does it have a range of values like 0-127? In Geoshred Pro on iPad, growl can be manipulated by a range - eg. finger position.
Is SuperNATURAL Control1, aka Noise, like an overblowing effect when playing flute? Is it just off/on or controllable over a range?
Regarding an earlier comment about guitar, yes I settled on a particular fingering for the euphonium solo for a while, but lately when I play it, I try notes on different frets to see if I get better sustain - without plugging in the Freqout for artificially boosting sustain. Seems to vary from guitar to guitar.
The answer is: it depends on the Tone as to what the SuperNATURAL controls do.
Growl/Vibrato/Noise related ones are usually continuous.
On the AE30 often these continuous ones are mapped to the the thumbpad.
Others like Staccato/Pizzicato/Fall/etc. are switch controls. Usually these ones are mapped to S1/S2 but sometimes they are on the thumbpad on the AE30.
No the noise ones are usually breath noise/bow noise/etc.
There is one of the synth sounds that is setup to essentially overblow as the breath response fade in the upper octave partial.
The DynaSample Xpresso does have the overblowing setup with pitch bend up for the flutes:
Oh, very cool that some sounds are already set up for the overblow effect and/or change octave by breath manipulation (no fumbling for switches/buttons needed).
The Boss FS-1-WL looks like a very useful accessory, so I was researching how the expression pedal input to it might be mapped, but thanks to the above info, I might not need to take the trouble to map it to growl or noise.
I might not wait until Black Friday
The sooner I get an Aerophone, the sooner I can start learning to play it.
The Thumbpad on the AE30 (not the AE20) is pretty useful and is normally the main thing I use.
Keep in mind there’s a lot of stuff on the Aerophone that is able to be mapped to controls (whatever ones you want).
True.
For example, I was thinking that the AE-20 thumb lever could be mapped to growl or switching between major and minor chord tonality.
But the revelation that overblow and other behaviors can be controllable by breath alone - yes, depending on the sound - has eliminated the majority of my controller mapping ideas. I’ll probably replace those ideas with ideas for transport control. Those of course are not original at all, as they were posted earlier in this thread.
That’s one reason why I’ve got the Electra One as there’s some more complex control mechanisms I was going to look into and more interesting harmony related stuff. I also want to abstract some of the controls away from the individual instruments as I use a few of them.
You can get 8 CCs with different curves using breath alone and you can do stuff like fading in and out different partials in Zen Core at different rates.
There’s also other stuff like Drone parts so you can play bagpipes on the Aerophone by setting the drone as you play the melody. That’s what the Uillean Pipes are doing in:
There’s also intelligent harmony that’s only available on the Aerophone Pro currently:
Overall there’s lots of performance oriented features to play around with.
Electra One?!!!
:dizzy:

Keep dropping gems @adamc I’ll be owing you a commission check soon. Whomever makes those Electra’s owes you one now.
*(tmi) summarized edit :-))
Electra One is a platform for doing programmatic MIDI stuff, if you are a programmer it’s got a bunch of Lua scripting mechanisms to setup whatever craziness you’d like.
I dumped some of the code I had so far but you’re on your own if you want to go down that road.
You also could make an editor to have quicker access to some of the stuff in the Aerophone as it’s capable of sending sysex and other stuff.
I program for work though so tinkering on the Electra is pretty limited by how much I feel like doing some programming projects in my spare time.
Flash Sale
Aerophone AE-20W on sale for $750 at Costco. Just bought another. Sale ends tommorrow.
Apparently, Costco has had a partnership with Roland for awhile now. Official Roland Store online for members to buy select new Drums, Keyboards and Wind Instrument products.
It’s likely they’ll rotate AE models so I’ll be keeping an eye out for a Pro Bundle soon.
But why when you already have one?
My sister played Clarinet. Thinking of her or a nephew. Tis the season.
I have to learn more before making the investment on Electra. I was hoping for a really str8 forward touch screen midi playground sort of like an iPad app with real knobs type of experience.
It would be great to be able to change keys per tone with a knob twist for quick chord progression changes and have the key/number/chord represented on the screen. I know you can do stuff like that with Electra. Question is how difficult is it to set up.
If you just wanted a MIDI controller to edit/manipulate synths, that’s its primary use case.
If you wanted the fancy on the fly harmony stuff, that’s all stuff I’ve coded up from scratch, it can do it but you are basically programming on your own. I would not recommend it for this purpose unless you were wanting to code up some harder on the fly manipulation stuff as some hobby projects.
If you want some less open ended on the fly stuff, look at some of the pipes in a Blokas MidHub:
