‘To be eligible for an Official Artist Channel, you must own and operate a YouTube channel that represents one artist or band . This means that the channel should be dedicated to showcasing the artist’s music and related content. The artist or band must have at least three official music video releases on YouTube.’
Oh yeah, if you’re doing video promotion- def get that together before you submit to distribute it.
I made the mistake of “oh! I’ll just make a video teaser every other day and then release it”
Its exhausting and stressful.
Also, don’t do multiple teasers for a single- unless it’s like 10 minutes with different movements, you’re gonna run out of idea from that very limited pool of creative resources.
Sorry for spamming here but also nice if you have time and enjoy doing it … uploads via a Dist service should allow you to couple an Instagram account. This also means that once you’ve uploaded / published your material you can make very short videos and add your music and it will be assigned / recognised. This way you can make quick catchy interesting vids for promo on Insta. I am shit at it but I do it all the same and that is far less work but it can go a long way if you already have a bunch of followers on your account.
My personal opinion is steaming pays peanuts. Us some distorbution services for certain tracks but in the end just go direct to consumer. Why upload your music there on streaming sites except for it to be easy access to grow a fan base. Though youll feel much more rewarded and positive about the music if one person pays 20 bucks for the album vs 1000 streams at least I would
I recommend only releasing singles on spotify. If the album was 10 tracks put 3 on spotify put the rest on a bandcamp with a listen preview. Use the singles on spotify to direct traffic back to your main webpage where people can buy your lovely album for some money. It can cost a dollar even. Youll make more revenue for your work this way while still reaping the benefits of spotify which is the spotify users or music consumers/listeners for lack of a better term.
Streaming has made people think that by paying 9.99 I get to enjoy everyones music for free. I tell you what though I remember going to buy the cds of my fav artists as a kid. Use video and photo content to help promote the singles and the larger scale project which can be found on your site or wherever for purchase. Those that truly support will pay. Those that get angry about it not being available to stream have been to spoiled.
My 2 cents at least, and also advice I follow with my own band.
