Ableton or octatrack/either or

Now I don’t want to be a plonker and make out that it needs to be one or the other, I love them both dearly. And it can surely be one way AND another, not one way OR another.

Saying that, I’ve had so much fun doing simple generative random follow actions in Ableton, and I’m scratching my head as to how to achieve that unique flow and groove that these things can create in the Octa.

In Ableton I have about 5 tracks, all with diff clips, mostly with 2 midi notes on each, spaced randomly, and also triggered randomly. It sounds like the band in Return Of The Jedi, except they are all on Ketamine. In a good way.

It’s a tall order to ask Octa to do this

but I was wondering how the lfo randomiser could help, apart from on the sample slices thing (which is effing great, needless to say)

It would be awesome if you could assign lfo to scenes, for instance, or pattern numbers

you can’t use the lfo’s to modulate scenes or pattern number, but you could take midi out of the OT and plug it into midi in on the same OT, then assign a midi track to control a regular track on the OT. you can then use the lfo’s to control the transpose, mode, and length of the arpeggiator on the midi track. it might get you in the area you’re looking for.
