Is anyone running ableton 11 with an m1 mac that only has 8gb? If so, is that working alright for you? Is it worth upgrading to 16gb?
Runs fine on 8gb M1, absolutely blazingly fast in fact.
Will work, but if using power-hungry plug-ins like Omnisphere 16GB ram is advised. More futureproof too
Using 8gb with omni haven’t had any issue so far. Though I like to keep minimal amount of tracks
If you can spend the cash Maybe go 16. I opted to take my chances as I have a windows i5 powerbeast that runs everything so need.
I killed a 16gb M1 running maybe two browsers of Figma.
Don’t run Figma.
Edit: I should add that it is easy to create extremely resource heavy websites, so the fact that I could kill the MBP with two tabs of Figma doesn’t mean much at all. Ableton should be fine, but it’s memory footprint will depend on how your projects are structured. I’m leaning towards 32gb when I get my personal MBP.
New M2 13" Macbbook Pro and MacBook Air are here. I still believe the screen is too small for me since I’m used to a 15". Anyone has as idea about when we can expect M2 14" MacBook Pros? This fall?
Q4 End of the year at the earliest is my guess. That’s one year after the M1 MBP release.
I agree, 14" is the absolute minimum. I used a 13" Macbook Pro M1 with Ableton Live but the screen was much too small for me. I sold it and now I use a 16" Macbook M1 Pro, and is a very good size.
I think the 14" Macbook Pro will not be here this year.
In defense of the 13" MBA M1 - I have one and I don’t find it that much of an issue. I have Ableton Live scaled to 110% and with a nice clear theme I don’t struggle, and I have really bad eyesight. I mean BAD - astigmatism and myopia with mismatched long/short sightedness. I think I don’t struggle too much as the screen is so clear and sharp.
I decided on 13" as it was affordable. Given the choice I’d have a bigger screen. I love how light and portable it is as a result though.
That said, my last MacBook had a 15" screen and going back to it now is like WOAH haha.
