I just got my Mac Mini. The 8GB RAM version; should do it. Retuning the PC i had not build yet. So far Ableton is running smooth and the aggregated audio device is great for using multiple Audio over USB devices.
And them releasing this beta is great as well!
I was expecting that if they release a new iteration in oktober that it would be more high end; took a risk. The new tech syndrome sucks
I’ve got a 2018 MBP 15. In no way do I really need an upgrade but if native silicon support translates to a sizeable battery improvement (better than the 2 hours or so max I get using Live just now that is) then I could be very interested in seriously considering an upgrade 1 or 2 years earlier than expected
You may be getting close to time for a battery replacement. I just got a new one in my 2015 mbp, and there’s a noticeable difference. I’m also eyeing these M1 machines, but reasonably bet I have at least 2 more years left with my current computer.
I must confess to having the “battery service” warning since I moved to Big Sur. Despite only 260 odd cycles, Apple wouldn’t replace free of charge as I want the macs original owner.
Convinced the o/s update has caused that though but can’t bring myself to pay for a replacement when the battery is supposedly only c25% though it’s like!
Still, if things perk up with it fixed then there’s 2 grand saved for a couple of years I guess
Anyone using the Beta on a M1 yet? I’m on a trial of Live 11 suit and keep getting CPU spikes. Bitwig is nothing like this on the same Mac (2020 MB Air, 8gig ram, 512HD) with much the same project.
“The new macbook pro…with new spacial audio, a beautiful 12mp center stage camera, and airpods, bring you closer to your friends and loved ones like never before…”
hopefully the usb doesn’t break any audio apps,
apple 'we’ve added a unique power socket that doesn’t ship with any devices… but its only £50 ’ … and although 8 gig costs £50 * we’ll charge x10* if you want it on your device.
or something like that.
numbers might not be accurate
i still might buy one… my macbook is from 2010.
I’m late to the party, but I’m here – is it recommended to use Ableton M1 or will I be unhappy because so much is not working yet (I suppose all my plugins need to be M1 ready?)
Using Ableton M1 native beta over here, have not hit any problems.
Amazingly, since audio units run in their own process, M1 Ableton can load intel AU’s. Works seamlessly, I didn’t even realize it was happening at first.
I have not tried any native instruments plugins, but plugin boutique/alliance stuff, lots of izotope, eventide, valhalla, … all work great.
So I’m pretty green when it comes to computers and even more so with Macs. I recently was gifted a 2015 MacBook pro and I love it! The only problem is that the battery only lasts about an hour tops without the charger because the processing power it takes to run the OS ( I think big sur, I’m on my phone right now ). That said, at some point in the next year or two I’d like to upgrade to more of a desktop setup. I have been looking at the mini Mac and it seems like it might be a little to good to be true compared to the other offerings Apple has, I’m guess the screen is a big reason for that but I was curious if any of yous use a mini Mac and how you like it?
I’m just beginning my journey into using DAWs or anything involving a computer but so far I’m using Pro Tools and Logic and really like them both. Pro tools seems to run better on my machine but I have to be very careful about using plug-ins. If I get around 5-10 shit can get weird. Logic will work for a while but then shuts down if the project gets to big. I know it’s mainly that my computer is on the back 9 so I’d assume the newer ones don’t have those issues.
TLDR
Basically just looking for feedback or recommendations on a new mac.
buy anything that has M1 on it. It doesn’t matter. Only if you’re rich or not. (so my suggestion: go to an Apple store and use the macMini, Air M1, 13", 14", 16" - then look at your bank account and decide - the laptops also work pretty good as desktop substitute with a 2nd monitor.
edit: you don’t necessarily need to buy there … I just got a 13" pro M1 almost new for a lot less than Apple sells them new.
