Ableton Move : User Thread

My Move arrived today and it’s tons of fun. It must be by far the fastest box (or combination of boxes) to churn out sketches. In literary 10min I can have track idea and skeleton.

I only played with it for few hours, one thing I’m not sure if I’m getting right - there is no option to solo individual pad in drum rack, only soloing of tracks is possible via shift+mute?

I’m guessing this isn’t possible because I can’t seem to figure it out but maybe someone here knows a hack-

Is it possible to resample on the Move without the sequencer running? Say I just want to hit some drum samples and mess with the sounds while I’m doing it and resample that into another drum pad? It seems like any time you select another pad in the drum rack after you select the pad you want to record to, it stops the recording. The resampling feature seems like it’s mostly for recording other instruments into the drum rack, melodic sampler, or audio track, but not really available if you just want to resample other drum sounds into one pad.

Anyone know if this is possible?

But if you just jam without sequencer running and then capture it (since it all goes into buffer), you can resample that then? It’s maybe not as direct, but it’s practically it.

If you install Schwung, it has a 30 second skip back buffer and it will record this to disk when you press Shift-record. So you can play your track without the sequencer running, then his that combo, load your drum track and load the sample from the recordings folder.

You might want to have a read of the Ableton Move: Schwung (formerly Move Everything) (Custom synths and FX) thread.

Thanks, I know it’s possible with Schwung but I was wondering if it’s possible without that. For now I don’t want to install an extra firmware on the Move bc a great part of the appeal is its simplicity to me. Was hoping that resampling was just a bit more capable than it is.

I’ll give this a try. It’s adding an extra step but maybe it’ll work. Thanks for the suggestion.

When the beta introduced audio tracks, quantised recordings were a bit glitchy and created imperfect loops (as opposed to Live or Push which don’t have this problem). There have been a few beta releases since then - has this been resolved?

Current wishlist for next Move update that I just sent along to the Ableton team:

-make it possible to cut off pad sound once its triggered (not using choke function)

-make it easier to copy measures, not just note ranges

-make it possible to quantize individual notes in a clip instead of all notes

-make it possible to set end point for a sample, not just hold length

-make it possible to set hold amount in trig steps and not just milliseconds

-make it possible to resample other instruments without resample process cancelling when switching to another instrument

-make it possible to adjust attack time on master compressor settings and not just release

-introduce a probability setting for notes

-make it possible to record automation on the master effects

You might want to post your list on the Ableton Discord Ableton

They have a feature wish list channel for the Move.

Hi all, just reading through this thread after ordering my Mood tonight. Appreciate all the resources and tips you’ve posted… As a Max4Live developer I’m quite intrigued by the new RNBO Takeover alpha release and I’ve been experiencing FOMO all week while wondering about what I could potentially build. Should be here in a few days. Haven’t had a new piece of gear for quite a while - looking forward to it. cheers

Thanks for this heads up. I thought I was part of the Ableton Discord channel but it turns out it was an unofficial one. I wasn’t seeing any threads on Move in it and that must have been why.

Really looking forward to you developing stuff for RNBO Move!

Is there a Key comb to actually arm more than one track? Splitting a chord from an external sequencer into the move but I can’t seem to actually record midi but one by one…

Ableton Move & Granulator III

Loving this combo, I think Move is such a perfect box for controlling Gran III… Cheers!

Have you seen that with RNBO, you can have Granulator III directly on Move?

Yes, seems very cool but haven’t tested, have you?

Not yet! I’m waiting for official 2.0 fw to drop before going all in with Schwung and RNBO!

Yeah, I’m also on the beta 2 and very happy with what is - but yeah might do the transition in the future too…

I’ve tried granulator and a few other RNBO devices, it works for proof of concept but the experience is a bit too rough to be something I’ll be using much at this stage - it is an alpha, after all.

Not really interested in Schwung tbh, adding a bunch more features on top of the stock OS just doesn’t seem attractive to me, I feel like it goes against the entire clean and streamlined design philosophy of the device. But definitely looking forward to seeing what comes out on the RNBO takeover devices, although I think it’ll be a little while before this side really starts coming into its own.
