I ignored the slicing update as I feel it just doesn’t work on the Move as is, as you really need to keep a spare track to use it. I still want a simpler Simpler and keep my fingers crossed for that. But for now I just stick to parameter locking the start point of the sample, like I did when Move was released. This works pretty well.
I’m new to the Move and I just did this with some random Syntakt percussion hits I sampled into it. You can get some pretty neat things going on only a single pad of a drum rack that way already.
Received it yesterday. First impressions are the speaker is very quiet and I doubt I will use the wavetable synth if it’s just presets but maybe I’ll warm up to it. Haven’t updated it yet so can’t comment on using Drift from scratch. I’m wondering if it will be more inspiring to use for just drum patterns than the Digitakt, but have to get some good samples on it first.
The speaker is a sad joke tbh xd
It’s usefull for sampling without plug in an headphone
The more they update this , I get more interested. . Certainly don’t need it but might serve a role. Is it the same rubber coating as Push and Elektron use? If so I don’t really want it. The heat where I live destroys that rubber quickly.
No, it;s not TPU coated, hard plastic.
I thought Push doesn’t use that stuff any more?
I have an old push 2., maybe the 3 doesn’t. I should look into that.
Push 3 is the same as Move. No more sticky mess on those two devices, thankfully. I hated it when my Push 2 went that way and was actually one of the reasons I bought my Push 3.
Is it possible to use individual fx’s on the drumkits 16 slots, or are you forced to use the same Fx’s on all of them?
This. You have one shared effect and one send which you can set the level per pad.
However the drumsampler’s fx are per pad so you could potentially have FM on one pad, ring mod on another, stretch on a third etc. It’s more flexible this way than you would think.
Definitely need to train on these functions. ![]()
The speaker is disappointing, no way around that, but it is less disappointing/more useful if the move is sat flat on a large surface. Volume for the project can also be turned up in the project select mode if you hold the pad for the project and crank up the volume knob. You can further increase the output by slapping an effect on the master.
No reason not to update as far as I can tell… if you’re on WiFi and it prompts you, then just do it. It’ll take 2-3 min.
Some of the wavetable presets are nice, but suit yourself. I am pretty sure there are “methods” to create and export your own wavetable presets, you can set the 8 macros to modify whatever you want. Pretty sure it’s in the extending-move (or is it “move extended”?) toolset that hasn’t been updated in a while but still works. A lot of other cool stuff in that set of tools that just runs on the device itself and accessible via move.local.
I’ve had a lot more time with it and I’ve updated the firmware. Definitely having more fun with the device. I was working on a couple ambient tracks yesterday. I am finding the wavetable presets pretty usable, but then I want to change the attack for example and it’s not available and I get a bit stuck. I guess I could resample. I was a bit surprised how limited the melodic sampler is, but I can see them expanding the functionality in future updates. I’m finding the effects to be really usable and nice.
It is definitely scratching the itch of a sketchbook when I don’t want to sit at my desk, but I’m not certain it’s for me yet. The only other groovebox type thing I’ve owned was the DT1, so the workflow takes some getting used to. It’s making me consider something that has more fully featured synths like the DN1 or maybe just getting a Push 2 actually. I now understand the appeal of the analog 4 also.
-Edit: Last day of deals made me panic and I decided to swap it with a tethered Push 3. It just sounds like it has everything I’m missing with a Move. I’ll be keeping my eye on the Move firmware updates. Looking forward to see where Ableton hardware goes next.
Move 1.8.5b1
December 2, 2025
Bugfixes
Improve sample loading
Fix loading samples when being close to the memory limit
Improve loading of samples when switching between Sets
Recover in case a sample previously failed to load
Small Core Library improvements:
Drum Sampler's in KUČKA Drum Racks now use exactly 100% Sample Length
All Drum Samplers in Drum Racks now have "Envelope Follows Pitch" activated
I feel that they are gearing up for seamless set switch, no? Quicker sample loading, bigger sample pool in ram etc.
That would be, as the over-enthusiastic YouTube faces say, a gamechanger.
Don’t have a Move so wondering if I can use it with a Digitone in that the audio from the Digitone will pass through the Move audio in and be shaped by the effects on the Move? Would like to have Compression on the Digitone audio. Thanks in advance.
Audio effects are not applied to the monitor input on Move.
