Ableton Move : User Thread

Aha! Explains a bit. Would be awesome if Live could play but Note would be enough in many cases.

I recently bought a Poiyend Mini and I am pretty convinced that these mashy little buttons are going to break within a couple of years. They are awful. And the way the rubberized case attracts greasy finger prints. I shudder to think of cleaning it up in order to sell.

Yeah I feel that. I sold the Mini in favour of the full size Tracker+, and the build quality there is a fair step up (if I’m correct it’s also made in Poland which I’m sure has an implicaton on costs). I have moved the Tracker (OG) on before, but it felt a bit premature honestly. Not that it’s a “can’t live without” device, but it’s sortof unique and quirky and does plenty of things that Move doesn’t. All the generative fill type stuff is very very handy, and for a Tracker I found it very easy to come back to after a break.

As mentioned in the consolidating devices thread, initially I was focussed on maybe going down the Push only route. While having 7-8 different boxes all with different workflows is a bit much, having 2 (the Ableton +1 approach) can get you away from things being all one way. Move is actually clever in that it feels like Live, but it’s pretty different in lots of ways - certainly enough to make it a step-jump from standalone to controller. It’s those little things that keep things interesting. So I guess for your workflow, it’s worth thinking about whether that variety is worth keeping around for when you want a break from Move.

Looks like importing .abundle files is not possible in Note at the moment. :slightly_frowning_face: That would be nice because then I could keep my soon to be 1 million Move sketches in an iCloud Drive folder or something.

So for the time being it seems the only way to get a set off of Move and then back on again later would be to upload it to Note via Ableton Cloud (before removing it from Move!)

That process could definitely use some streamlining. Hopefully Ableton Cloud expansion is forthcoming!

I did actually but the option on right click of the DrumRack Header ( once the wav is sliced to a DrumRack from Simpler ) is Simpler -> Drum Sampler were every Slice is converted back to the entire loop again … so say 16 Pads with the same Loop every Pad ( losing the slice information )

64gb of sample storage but only room to store 32 local projects and 8 inside the cloud.

I agree, Ableton should address this.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. it’s made me feel better about keeping the Polyend around for a bit.

I only bought the Polyend a couple weeks ago and I’m not very far into the manual, so this was a significant reservation I had as far as ordering a Move was concerned. i don’t like the feeling of a piece of gear being orphaned before I’ve given it a proper go. I’ve done it with guitar pedals and I know that it can be very counter productive to learning what you have on hand. This will be the first time I’ve purchased two different groove boxes within such a short timeframe and I do not like it.

The one for TD-3?

It’s this one for the boutiques. Magma CTRL Case Roland Boutique Dock

I’m trying one for the Novation Launchkey today because I noticed it was somewhat similar in width to the Move (though obviously not the same especially in height.) Like the MPK cases, I’m hoping with a bit of padding it should work OK.

A hardware version of what i posted earlier:

Is there a way to batch convert all samplers to drum samplers in a drum rack?

One other thing to note, and it’s my only minor watchout so far, is that it’s worth having some sort of batch renamer if you’re uploading sample packs. I’ve noticed that packs with long names make it hard to see what you’re choosing between, so I’m just checking through mine at the mo and removing any long names so they show up OK on screen.

Yeah. It’s annoying. I’ve put in a feature request to scroll file names when you stop scrolling on them.

I went thru this process yesterday but stopped after 5 minutes🤪

Yeah if they “borrow” the Polyend name scrolling and also jump to top in folders that would be pretty handy.

Well, there’s some cold water on that hope :sob:

Quick pic of the Move in a Maschine Mikro Mk3 case https://amzn.eu/d/fo3ssXc

Plan to add more foam inserts for a snugger fit. Will do for now!

Think it’s a similar size to the MPK Mini case linked earlier in the thread.

Also the Launchkey one by the same maker seems in a similar ballpark.

Yeah I noticed this also but I’m kind of negating it by organising samples by type and bpm at the folder level, so it’s just a matter of pad preview when I load stuff up, still like you say it’d be nice to have longer file names scroll over…

Mine hasn’t turned up yet but it’s probably going back based on that, thanks for sharing :+1:

Just came across a post on reddit of somebody who is using a 75% keyboard case and it’s a perfect fit. Makes sense. Most 75% keyboards (the typing kind, not the music kind) are about 12-13" × 6-7" × 1-2" which matches up with the move.

Something to consider.

Have you tried this with Move?

Does it work for sure?
