Ableton Move : User Thread

I’m interested but please tell us what’s coming in the update?

Thank you!

The biggest feature is that Punchline now works in any channel, not just the master, this means you can record your performance as automation into clips on as many channels as you whish, it´s also possible to delete Punchline´s automation directly from Push/Move, which is really cool for the workflow. Automation is also played back on the Grid for visual reference.

Any or all FX pads have now an option to work as a toggle or momentary button.

GUI improvements on the device and the grid, for instance any placed Effect has now an orange Background when not triggered, it´s much easier to keep up on how many FX Slots already are populated.

Last but not least, a proper manual to get the most out of it

The integration is very tight. You won’t find this level of integration in anything other than a Push. It’s pretty intuitive as well.

  • You can’t control sends or panning on each track. For panning, you could use a ‘Utility’. I’ve not found a workaround for sends though. I use a separate controller for that. I might look to M4L to see how hard it would be to make an 8 knob device that can control up to 8 sends on the track you drop it on. You can easily scroll between devices from Move so having a ‘Sends Bank’ device would be great.
  • Having access to more than 8 parameters would also be a boon. I’m currently using an external controller mapped to macros 9-16 to control and additional 8 parameters on VSTs. Not a deal breaker but it would be really nice if Ableton could find a way to control up to 16 parameters while in ‘Control Live’ mode.
  • Having more control over clip length. You can do lengths between 1 and 15 or increments of 1 bar afterwards. I would like to be able to set the total clip length in increments of steps and not just the first bar (unless I’m missing something).

The controller itself if just bomber fucking solid. It has heft and everything about it is premium. It is just a really well-built device.

You can do this, i think if you hold the Bar Button and turn the jogwheel the length increments in steps.

It does but only for the first bar it would seem. After bar 1, it just increments in bars. I’ll have to double check but I couldn’t find a way to make a clip 19 steps for example.

I see, i seem to recall that it worked for me, i´ll give it a try later today and report back.

this looks sweet! I mostly use Move in standalone mode and move back and forth between it and an iPad for sketches. one of my goals for this year is to figure out a good workflow using it within Live.

also, I was not aware a Move update was coming already? cool!

Hey, just to clarify, i was saying that an update for my device called Punchline is coming, not for Move! I don´t know anything about the update schedule for Move

Thanks, will do!

So far it just looked like usb audio in the beta.

that is a big upgrade! the ability to record and sample from ipad over USB would be very helpful.

the only other thing i want is a better sampler engine – we can dream!

Can I apply effects to all channels but exclude a a drum channel?

Hold Shift + Loop and turn the datawheel to extend beyond 1 bar in increments of 16th‘s

Not sure I understand you correctly. You can use one instance of Punchline on any channel in ableton‘s mixer, if you don’t want to have it on a track just don‘t place the device there
