The Move also has USB audio
I got a very similar reply to @Brockstar about the cover over the power button and I was also told that they expect the cover to be available around the 23rd of January.
I really like Move as a controller for live. Just realised you can p-lock midi note length with the jog wheel.
so you can select tracks, add new midi clips, adjust their length up to 16 bars or something, step sequence, p-lock note length & (currently) 8 parameters. navigate track devices & adjust up to 8 parameters per device. mute tracks, undo, midi capture.
I might be missing a few things, but not bad at all. hopefully more integration is on the cards.
anyone know can you p-lock velocity & chance in controller mode?
Nicely done! I think @Rivanni deserves a commission from Decksaver for spotting that design flaw
I’m 99.99% certain you can do velocity. But from memory, you can’t do chance. If no one else confirms, I’ll check it after breakfast.
yea you’re right, there’s no probability on Move thus far. checked it standalone last night. can p-lock velocity standalone. I’ll check it in controller today too
Took me longer than I thought to get to it. But you can p-lock velocity in controller mode but no way to control chance (yet),
After weeks of back and forth with Ableton support (most of which was them asking me to do troubleshooting steps I had already mentioned that I tried in my initial support ticket) we finally stumbled on something that worked.
I had to use my router’s web interface to look up the Move’s IP address and use that directly to access Move Manager on my phone. Just http://IP ADDRESS/ did the trick.
They never told me why the normal Move Manager URL doesn’t work properly on my mobile device, but in case anybody else runs into the same issue I did I just wanted to drop an update with this workaround.
so you can P-lock macro parameters on the instrument you’re using? how does it work?
Hold step, turn knob
It changes the param just for that step (Elektron style)
This is nit-picking but since there are a lot of Elektronauts (literally) here, I thought I’d point out that it’s not quite Elektron-style since, after the p-locked step has been played, it will revert back to whichever state that parameter was on when the p-lock was programmed. Meaning, unlike Elektron boxes, where you can keep the “unlocked” parameter state completely independent from the p-locks, on the Move, as soon as you add one p-lock, you also lock the default state for that parameter for all other steps.
Are you sure?
Edit: oh I see what you mean. You are correct.
Hmm but that seems completely pointless then? I don’t quite understand. I thought the p locking would just create an automation lane. (I don’t have a Moveyet so apologise my ignorance)
i don’t understand djst’s post above. setting a parameter lock locks the whole sequence? that sounds bad.
I just tested it because my memory of how it happens is foggy. It locks it for the duration of the pattern. Lets say you have a synth pad playing and the default cutoff value is 60%. You P-lock step 8 so the cutoff is 75%. Now the cutoff is 75% unless you put another P-lock immediately after to return it to its previous value. This lasts until the pattern loops, at which point the P-locked value will return to its default state.
It’s not ideal for standalone use but I’m guessing it’s actually creating an automation lane? I haven’t moved a project from Move to Ableton yet to confirm this, but this is how automation clips work in Ableton if you loop a section.
I guess it’s not that bad if you can create another P lock afterwards. I can see how I could make it work. But I thought we were talking about the Move as a controller, Im surprised p locks also work this way on the standalone mode.
Oh sorry, I completely forgot about that context! It’s a busy morning (contrary to what my posting here might indicate. I’m procrastinating).
As far as I know, that’s how “p-locks” work on Push and thus Live too. Meaning, it really is just an automation lane with a specific square-shaped parameter value at the step you lock it to. So just like automation lanes in Live, once you have recorded some automation, you’ve also locked in a default state for that parameter - for that pattern at least (or in the entire Arrangement view if/when you’re on that side of things).
Compare that with Elektron, where the default state is still free-floating and can be manipulated live as you’re jamming/performing, but the p-locks are locked to those specific steps, hence the word I think.
Move’s p-locks seem just like elektron p-locks to me. I notice no difference in use 🤷
