Ok. I’ll yield. The DigiTone is a proper GrooveBox. Thanks for the clarification.
Is this before or after “Ableton has lost its way as a company”. Just checking.
One more day to the announcement hope it turns out good.
Haha. Okay I’ll go get some digitone pie now.
Haha. Be sure and share some slices. It’s great pie.
Perfect groovebox… What if they put a large screen, a full keyboard, a large battery and allow us infinite tracks. Like this:

Whatever this thing is going to be, can we take a moment to acknowledge how far we’ve come for hardware Ableton controllers?
I’ve been using Ableton since 2008ish, I spent a lot of time mapping generic MIDI controllers to Live parameters. I got to try Maschine at some point after it first came out, and I loved the integration with the software — I just wished such a thing existed for Ableton.
Now we’re 3 generations deep on Push and on the brink of a whole new thing. What a great time to be an Ableton dork. Cheers to all the old heads who waited for this day
I love this thread
People actually getting disappointed by a piece of hardware that doesn’t exist yet, that may not be a piece of hardware all. I really hope it’s a new backpack for the Push 3 lol
Not sure, I’ve completely lost the plot
Don’t you mean lost the Pots since this thing seems to have a lot of them.
Contender to replace my mc 101, especially if it can play samples polyphonically, and has filter envelope.
Shocking news!!!
Ableton is a great software Company! Ableton still has a long way to go regarding hardware instruments.
Right?
And i mean this based on their 3 itenerations of push, and also as a mean to temper my expectations regarding Move. At the sametime, boost my curiosity. Move, is the first dedicated hardware product of Ableton (hardware first, not controller first). Is it going to be amazing? Average? Bad?
“just” zencore… that’s basically all Roland synth there is. 90s romper to 80s analog subtractive, along with faithful recreations of Juno, SH, JX, JD, etc.
Not saying I think grooveboxes need more type of synthesis though, just pointing out that the MC-101 synthesis palette is pretty sweet.
seems like OCTober 8th could be some subtle hint of it having 8 tracks. idk. they’re clever so whatever… everyone’s all reading into everything. hype machine obviously working on its own.
This is a great point that often seems to get lost when discussing track counts.
A Digitakt track is monophonic. Sure, you can p-lock sounds to play different ones per step but still only one at a time. The DT2’s generous 16 tracks are essentially 16 voices of sample polyphony.
An MC-101 has 16 pads per drum track and they can all play simultaneously. You “only” have 4 tracks but since each track can be a drum track, that’s 64 notes of polyphony. The main limitation there is that this makes it difficult to mix things since pads within the same track can’t be separated.
That problem is solved with the Move, since you could route each drum sample into separate tracks and effects all you want once you pick things up in Live.
So in theory, you could use one single track for drums and bass on separate pads, along with some ear candy. Then you still have three dedicated synth tracks with polyphony to add eg an arp, a pad and a lead. You could even squeeze in additional ear candy on one of these tracks. Once in the DAW, you can duplicate a track with a single key press to separate certain midi elements into discrete tracks for easier mixing.
Bottom line is: as far as sketchpads go, 4 tracks in the Ableton world means you can get incredibly far towards a full sounding song - and unlike most other grooveboxes (except MPC and Maschine), you retain all the mixing flexibility down the line.
Let’s just hope that it has generous sampling/resampling capabilities so you could resample long synth phrases into pads in the drum/sample track and I could see this thing become one of the best grooveboxes there is.
I’m a bit late to catch up here, but right now, the discussion’s so on point it seems some of you guys actually already know what the Move is.
Do you? Or are we still all guessing? Did I miss a single source of truth somewhere in this thread?
Ithink 8x8…
I Hope for 8 fader and 8 Buttons groovebox With large file Support
so far the facts are:
- it’s called Move
- it’s officially launching tomorrow
everything else is either excitement or disappointment.
Yes, I also think it is a hint. I bet it will have a 8x8 grid.
Why else would they release it on a Tuesday? Such a random day, other than the date.
Right on
