Like the way you think! Love stuff like this, my rig is packed full of similar weird solutions!
Unfortunately not quite right in this case… have you used a KP3? It has this wonderful workflow for sampling, I’ll try and describe it:
You record your sample (set length in advance - say for instance you set 8 bars).
There are 8 pads that light up across the top. They’ll all light up after recording.
Then, you can press a pad to turn it off, the corresponding section (in this case bar) will not simply be muted - the rest of the sample will automatically append itself together as if that part doesn’t exist.
So you could do stuff like this:
On 1,2,3,4 Off 5,6,7,8 - Only the first half of your sample will loop.
On 1,2,7,8 Off 3,4,5,6 - You’ll hear the first quarter and the last quarter seamlessly loop
On 1,2,4,5,6,7,8 Off 3 - A nice wonky 7/8ths of your sample will play, missing the 3rd part of 8
Etc etc. It’s absolutely amazing for quickly remixing and fucking with a sample. And I’m always looking for ways to recreate it in software. I can kind of fudge it with a combo of Drambo, Hapax, and Live… but with this type of solution it doesn’t feel tight and integrated like a plugin would.
Hmmm, interesting and I like the way you think. However I’m already on 33 loopers and that’s only the tiniest part of my setup. Also I want simple stuff like record an 8 bar loop, then shorten it by a beat, just a simple loop length control to play with etc.
See above! It’s for my jamming rig, it’s packed with stuff already, my Ableton project is currently at 510 tracks. Also, I find for looping, you need to reduce it to the simplest solution possible, you just need it to work in the moment, no pissing around!
I don’t think it does… I think it just re-pitches… could be wrong though.
There may be a work around using M4L to record into clips… seems a bit convoluted though and definitely has annoying limitations.
I think the solution might be wait for Loopy Pro to drop on Mac!
