I didn’t know this was a thing so thanks!
to me there are three things i would like to have in ableton:
- linked clips as in the new bitwig. that would be super handy
- and a global modulation system
- be able to use the crossfader as a modulation source
M4L send and receive objects are global by default unless you give the obligatory variables names the --- prefix like r ---myvarname which would make them patch local.
The crossfader of Ableton is a xfade between tracks assigned to A or B, so it is not a Octatrack-ish kind of slider. But nothing stops you from dropping a said M4L device into Master track and map - lets say - a slider value in that patch of your choice, to send myglobal a global value (a variable without ---) to any patch that has a receive myglobal object to output to what ever you want.
Beware: Master tracks demand MaxAudioEffect patches, but that doesnt stop Midi tracks with MaxMidiEffect to receive your global value.
Session and Arrangement view windows at the same time started in Live 9. I know, I’ve used it extensively even then.
Mixer in arrangement view yes, new in 12. But with large monitors and two windows (seesion view has mixer) functionally there in 9.
I once made this Octascenes version 1.01 by chapelierfou on maxforlive.com
Unexpected! Ableton Devs are on fire with these fast updates!
12.3.5b1 Release Notes
December 2, 2025
New Features and Improvements
- When using the Bounce to New Track command, bounced tracks now display a unique track number instead of the source track’s number. When first bounced, new tracks will use one number higher than the source track, so if track 3 is bounced, the new track becomes track 4.
- When starting a new search with the CtrlF (Win) / CmdF (Mac) shortcut, any previous search terms and active filters in the All label are now cleared.
- Bouncing a Group Track no longer produces a silent bounce file when a track outside the group is soloed. This behavior is now consistent with bouncing individual tracks.
- Files that are older than one week in the Crash folder of Live’s preferences are now automatically deleted when Live is launched.
- Fixed an issue where bouncing a nested Group Track caused the main Group Track’s effects to be applied to the bounced audio twice.
Bugfixes
- Fixed an issue where it was possible to extend the right edge of a bounced audio clip past the original source clip length.
- Fixed an issue where MIDI signals routed to a plug-in via the External Instrument device were ignored when exporting the track containing the plug-in using the Selected Tracks Only option.
- Fixed a bug in the APC64 Control Surface that could result in an error being written to Live’s Log.txt file when using a touch strip to adjust a disabled parameter.
- Accessibility:
Fixed an issue that occurred when navigating Max for Live devices with the keyboard while wrapped navigation was turned off. - Fixed an issue where the DS HH instrument could miss notes.
- Fixed an issue where samples could not be dropped from the Session or Arrangement View onto plug-in windows as expected.
- Fixed an issue where adding a device with a focused control to a multiselection caused the multiselection to be lost. Adding devices to a multiselection now works as expected. As a result of this change, selecting a device’s title bar now clears the focus of any controls within the device.
- Fixed a crash that could occur on Windows when closing Live from the taskbar after confirming whether to save a modified Live Set.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when loading a Soundtoys plug-in and then performing an undo step to remove the plug-in.
- The buttons in the Help View header now use a square shape.
- Fixed an issue where using the Bounce Track In Place command on a track containing only a very short clip created an additional undo step.
Oh thank god!
I know! this was so annoying I had to program a macro in the stream deck to delete before typing whatever I wanted to launch at the time ![]()
Yeh, its great that they listen to the user feedback
