A4 with RYTM - a couple workflow questions

Hi everyone -

I’m about to embark on creating my first track using the A4 with the RYTM and I had a couple of questions related to workflow…

1.) I was going to create a Project on both machines and name it the same thing on each. Any reason not to do this?

2.) I am planning on running the stereo outs of the RTYM into the A4 as previous threads on here seemed to point in this direction.

3.) Should the RYTM or the A4 be the MIDI clock master? Does it matter?

Any thoughts are most greatly appreciated.

Yess. This you should do. And keep it simple. Four songs per pattern. You can make a whole album with just 1 project

Mhmmz can be done. but better to buy a small mixer. Also route the kick via separate out. That way you can you the compressor/effect on the main out more intensively

3.) Should the RYTM or the A4 be the MIDI clock master? Does it matter?

Prefer the RYTM as the master clock. Just feels better if a drum machine determines the main rytm…like in a band

Any thoughts are most greatly appreciated.

not that i actively do this, but i’d name projects the same bar one digit, so any backups to C6 don’t get hard to decipher ProjX_4 ProjX_R e.g.

Not sure I understand. How do filenames get affected if you do a backup using C6?

nothing to understand, just a naming convention thought that may help if backing up identical named projects to c6, may not even matter

I think what he means is if you back up a project from the A4 and a project from the Rytm and both are called “ProjX” for example, then they will both be called “ProjX.syx” with nothing to distinguish which file came from which machine. Appending an A (for analog 4) or an R (for rytm) will help avoid any confusion. And will also prevent you from loading sysex file made on rytm into an A4 and vice versa

To be honest this is not something I currently do either. But it’s a good idea and now would be a good time to start
