My question is that can you play A4 with some external MIDI keyboard? More precisely, does recognize Note on, Note off, velocity, bender, mod wheel and after touch? If not all, what does it recognize?

have a look at this topic, it may help you
it recognises those and more, but only records note on (+ length) & velocity, the other parameters are used for realtime performance control (just like the performance mode)

but you can of course use another sequencer, eg your DAW, to record one or more of the tracks live with all the pitch bending and mod etc…
which you would anyway want to, because the moment you start really playing this thing as keyboarder 4 bars is jus not enough to express yourself…
