A4 MKII - is it possible to transpose the mini keyboard?

Hi folks! I usually will use an external midi controller to record into my A4MKII, however I’ve been opting to sometimes to only power up the A4MKII for some impromptu jamming, using the onboard mini-keyboard. Yes, it’s restrictive, but it’s also quick to noodle on an idea. Does anyone know of a way to transpose the mini keyboard? Let’s say I want to work in the key of F, I’d love to set the C of the mini keyboard, to start with the F note. I understand I can course-tune the Osc, and I understand I can transpose a pattern after recording. But I’m hoping it’s possible to just transpose they keyboard. What I’d really love is a way to scale/key-lock the 1-16 keys, as can be done on the DT/DN/ST boxes, which could give me access to 2-octaves, but if that isn’t possible, to at least transpose the mini keyboard.

Have you checked the manual for the word transpose?
There is a Transpose button on the A4, might fit your need…
I don’t remember if it transposes the keyboard though.

Yes, checked the manual, searched the forum, google, YouTube videos. Transpose button transposes patterns. Just hoping there’s an undocumented feature somewhere.

I’m not going to be much help with an A4 but is it possible this feature mentioned by sezare56 could be related?

Transpose + up or down arrows to change octaves sounds (to me) like if anything would be the button combo, that one would do it. I might be taking it out of context though, he could be referring to an external keyboard, but transpose button seems pretty specific to mention otherwise.

This doesn’t change your root note unfortunately so it may not solve your problem even if it does successfully jump octaves.

Unfortunately I don’t have time to keep digging right now but give it a shot and hopefully that will do it.

Good luck!

There’s also the solution to tune your oscillators so that the root note is the one you want.

Yes, this seems to be a little limited, but it does get the job done! Based on your response, I read up on Multi Map Edit, watched this video too:

and also saw cuckoo’s response in the comments of that video, hitting on what I was looking for.

So to get this done, have an entry where Function is Int.Trig, and Note is set to the key I’m in, and Track to Auto, and I can play/record while in Multi Map Edit mode. It doesn’t stick when I exit, but that’s fine since it’s just for impromptu jam/recording.

I’d love a feature in the future to do this a little easer, but I can live with this.

Thank you!

No problem. It’s definitely a little clunky for normal use but I’ve heard of worse so good stuff, glad it worked out

Oh wow, this is actually even more useful than I thought. Using the Multi Map, I can split the keyboard and not only transpose notes, but also assign any sound from the sound pool to a particular keyboard range. I’ve seen the Multi Map button on my Analog Keys, but never really played with it, and can’t remember seeing that setting in my A4MK2. Cuckoo has a cool video diving deeper into Multi Map:

  • and covers what I was trying to do right around 7:45.

Thanks again!
