A4 - midi to CV conversion - Octatrack arpeggiator

Hi all

I want to do something very specific, and would be grateful for some help.

I like to sequence my modular using the CV outs on the A4. I also have an Octatrack - sequencing and arpeggiating on the Octatrack is deeper than the A4, so I’d like to generate midi from the Octa, run it into the A4, and then out to the modular as CV.

(I’d like to avoid buying a midi to CV converter if I can do this from the A4. Also I am seriously pressed for space in my Eurorack case).

So:

  1. Is this possible?
  2. How do I configure it?

i think it is not possible, but maybe i am wrong… there could be a little chance, if you set the cv midi channel in a4 to a specific midi channel and then send midi notes to that channel via the ot arp…

i like the a4 arp, what can the ot arp do better? (i dont have ot)

I researched this awhile back as I have the same setup. Pretty sure I’m just going to get a midi/cv converter module but I’m think there are standalone ones as well?

Roger to that - but the issue is unresolved - can I send midi fron the OT to the A4, and then out as CV from the A4 to Eurorack?

In theory this all should be possible, as long as the A4 allows sending of MIDI notes to its CV track. Lemme glance at the manual… yes, CV track has (and fx track also! yay) its own MIDI channel for input! So go to the MIDI settings and just configure your CV TRACK CHANNEL appropriately and you should be good. Obviously RECEIVE NOTES must also be checked in the settings.

maybe also consider enabling the „live rec on track channel“ option, if you do not use the auto channel, maybe it makes a difference

yep this works. used it a bunch before realizing the two box system was too much for me. sold the A4 and got a CV.OCD for the OT straight to modular.

I’m looking for a midi/cv converter and plan on just using modular and OT for most things. No plans to sell the A4 any time soon though :slight_smile:

hey! not so unusual as you would think. I’ve been doing midi to cv for sometime now. here’s a couple options to sort it out right quick. cheers

Thanks all! Am aware of the third party solutions, but was hoping those wouldn’t veneered ansi can use the A4 instead :slight_smile:

By use case, I mean using the A4 for this purpose, not midi to CV more generally :slight_smile:
