I highly recommend the iConnectMIDI2 and iConnectMIDI4 interfaces to anyone using an iOS device and a computer or two in a MIDI setup.
These are brilliant devices – they’re a single MIDI interface that is shared by 2 or 3 computers (respectively). The routing possibilities are extensive, to put it mildly. They also allow audio to be passed through between the 2 or 3 computing devices (digitally – no D-A then A-D involved), so all 3 computers can also share a single audio interface.
I’m using the iCM4 with an iPad1 and a couple of MacBookPros, one of which is attached to an RME FF400. The iCM4 allows any MIDI app on any computer to talk ‘MIDI’ to any other MIDI app on any other computer (or h/w MIDI device), and audio from all 3 computers comes out the FF400.
… Beautiful integration.
Sorry for the ‘ad’ (though I’m not connected with the manufacturers), but it’s been decades since I got excited about a MIDI interface.
