A4 - f1 filter and osc1

This hasn’t totally sunk in but if I have just osc 1 turned up, f2 filter all the way up, the f1 filter seems to have no effect.

Is this because osc1 bypasses f1 filter. I remember seeing something like that in the arch diagram.

You can’t bypass any filters.

The behaviour of f2 depends on which mode is selected. Not sure what you mean by ‘all the way up’. If it’s high pass and set to the highest frequency you will be aggressively filtering almost everything except the highest frequency components and it will seem like f1 isn’t doing anything.

Your flattest response will be res. of 25 on filter 1 and cutoff wide open, on filter 2 res. of 0 and say a high pass all the way down (there are other options of course on the filter type)…the manual talks about them as well

It looks like there is problem with Track 3 on my A4. I was working on track 3 with default track sound, and tried several permutations of setting Filter 2 frequency, Filter 2 resonance, Filter 1 resonance constant and just changing the value of Filter 1 frequency. And it was having no effect on the sound only on Track 3. However Filter 1 freq does work on all the other tracks except Track 3.

So it appears that Filter 1 freq is only not working on Track 3 but it is working on all other tracks.

I’m still hoping this is user error but unfortunately I doubt it. And hoping this is a software issue and not a hardware issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am on the latest OS and am going to try and reinstall the OS. Otherwise I will contact Elektron support. Is there anything else I can try to reset the machine?

I accidentally clicked on calibration on my A4 even though it says not to do it unless contacting support. But it resets the filters.

CALIBRATION will start the calibration routine for the oscillators, pulse widths and filters. After selecting this option, a popup window asking to confirm the calibration will appear. Press [YES/SAVE] to proceed with the calibration. Please note the calibration routine takes a while to complete.
• The Analog Four is factory calibrated. It should not be re-calibrated unless specifically stated by Elektron Support.

Really? Cus I also did that once, fairly normal to calibrate analogue synths every now and again.

Bit wrong that they don’t say that on any of the literature that comes with the machine itself

I contacted Elektron support and they suggested I do a calibration as well. I ran that and all filters seem to be working properly now.
