A4 controlled by MD - sounds transposed?

Working on an A4 + Machinedrum project, and want the A4 slaved to the MD’s MIDI-clock, and have it react to program changes from the MD. I’ve set the MD to send MIDI-clock and program changes, and I’ve set the A4 to receive MIDI-clock and program changes.

MD is told NOT to send control out, and the A4 is set to not receive anything else than clock and program changes.

When I hit play on the MD, the A4 will start (and it says EXT in the corner), so the MIDI-clock thing seems to be fine, but there are some odd transpose-like things happening to the sound of the A4. It doesn’t play the current pattern as it’s supposed to do, it seems to be transposed down, for whatever reason. Also, the leds on the A4 are not blinking to show that the pattern is running, but it appears to play the pattern, only transposed down a couple of octaves or something.

Is there some setting I’m overlooking, or what? Any help on fixing this would be much appreciated!

hit [stop] on the A4. still playing?

here’s what’s happening: the pattern on the A4 is not playing, but the MD is sending notes to the A4, essentially playing it like a keyboard over the four MD base channels 1-4, which incidentally correspond with the A4 voice channels.

You need to enable CONTROL OUT on the MD in order to be able to start/stop the A4.
you also need to enable transport receive on the A4.

You then need to make sure the MD doesn’t send stuff to the A4, either by disabling RECEIVE NOTES / RECEIVE CC/NRPN in A4, or setting the BASE CHANNEL in the MD to “–” (OFF).

Ah, yes, excellent! Thanks a lot man, that did the trick - you’re a star!
