Hey gang…
I purchased 8 light gray note keys from Elektron HQ for my black A4 MKII but I don’t seem to have the proper sized hex tool to unscrew the bottom screws. Anyone know what size they are?
I’ve never needed to remove screws to get those button caps off. YMMV but there are lots of discussions on this technique if you need an alternative.
Just looked, those are Hex 2.5mm but I wouldn’t assume that’s all that’s needed to get access to the top of the upper PCB. It might be, there must be a teardown video somewhere or a discussion here. Mk1s are much simpler conceptually to get under the hood. But again, why not look into taking them off without any disassembly…
I use a plastic teaspoon to get keys off but a spudger or keycap remover is ideal. Anything that won’t damage the finish.
Interesting. I didn’t think they’d be removable in any other manner. Do you just pull them up and off?
Yep, they’re just like keycaps on a keyboard!
My contributions to this will be amongst many other suggestions, best read them all to establish the ones that fit you best.
Found a ton of pics here. Should be pretty straightforward.
A guitar pick will probably also work as a spudger if you decide that you want to go that route.
Good luck!
If you take the faceplate away from the interface PCB you run the risk of buttons rubbing when replaced. It’s not trivial, so I would avoid disassembly unless you’re savvy enough to shim the button caps away from the facia before tightening the PCB back. I’ve had to do this and it can take a few tries to get the spacing optimised. Plus you need to be careful with hairs getting between the screen and cover. YMMV.
Thanks gang! Will report back soon!
Solid! The first one is always scary though.
No doubt! Thanks again for the tip!
