As far as I can tell, the A4 at full volume should be able to output audio into a Eurorack audio input without any amplification. Have people had good luck doing this, or are there issues I should know about? I just happen to have a killer DI in my Eurorack and want to use it with the A4 (and other sounds).
Relatedly, I know the A4 can take modular levels at the input, but is there any reason why the audio needs to be attenuated in Euro before going into the A4, rather than just by setting the “levels” on the input channels to my FX track? (Assuming I’m not using the filters or VCAs in channels 1-4).
On the Elektron website, I see that the inputs and outputs of the Analog Four (mkII) are +19dBu and this calculator http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-db-volt.htm says the resulted peak-to-peak voltage is about 19.5V.
If I’m not mistaken, eurorack audio is 10Vpp. That would mean that eurorack audio can go into A4 unattenuated and A4 can go into eurorack but not at full volume.
Funny, I need to try at home. I would have thought it’s the opposite.
Thanks. I actually looked at 3 different sites and they all give different numbers. I was hoping for some real world experience, but I guess I will just do it and see.
In my experience with sending digitakt through the filter of a semimodular was you need to crank it up but you will get the volumes you need. Some other devices I own like a gameboy with nanoloop or microgranny need to have a mixer to add some gain. So worst case would be having a mixer as a middleman to add some gain. I found the bastl dude mixer pretty great for this as a little sub mixer type device.
I had the Audio from my A4 mkII Track Output run into MI Clouds and from Clouds Audio Out back into the A4 Audio Input without a Problem. IIRC i had to watch Levels on both, A4 and Clouds, and reduce them to avoid clipping.
