The A4 can be sequenced by live but the A4 cannot send it’s own data to the DAW. So it effectively makes the sequencer on the A4 useless for anything but audio recording to the DAW. Which is quite limiting with only 64 steps. But yes, just triggering it from the DAW is what I imagine most people are doing if they want more complex or longer patterns, but then you miss out on all the P-locks and everything else that the sequencer does.
