A4 Ableton rec. sequencer notes

Hello…

I can send sync form LIVE 9 to the A4…

I can record in Live 9 notes played in realtime by the A4, but if I make a pattern in the A4 and I would like to record in Live 9 the sequenced notes looks like I can’t…

Did anyone was able to record notes in LIVE 9 from the sequencer of the A4?

A4’s sequencer does not output MIDI. It is an often requested feature, but unlikely to happen (IMO).

That sucks… A lot of unreal feature but the obvious not… No probs

One of the most often requested features and a glaring ommision. Some have even sold theirs because of it, it’s a real workflow killer. Hopefully overbridge adds midi notes to daw when it is released.

A possible workaround that I’ve been using is to record the notes as audio and use ableton’s convert to midi feature.

You can get the a4 to read or be sequenced by live or any other daw Via midi (and cv would be nice but no dice)

The A4 can be sequenced by live but the A4 cannot send it’s own data to the DAW. So it effectively makes the sequencer on the A4 useless for anything but audio recording to the DAW. Which is quite limiting with only 64 steps. But yes, just triggering it from the DAW is what I imagine most people are doing if they want more complex or longer patterns, but then you miss out on all the P-locks and everything else that the sequencer does.

I didn’t think about trying that, I’ve actually never used that feature in Ableton. Is the timing pretty accurate?

Maybe try recording the A4 sequence as audio, and use the audio-to-MIDI function in Live to get the MIDI notes.

For me the timing is pretty good. I hadn’t been using this feature much until now myself. I monitor through my audio interface and turn off record monitoring in ableton, so the timing is as good as it gets.
It is a workaround because you lose all the cool features of the sequencer, like plocks. Then again, we don’t use plocks in every single sequence, just most.

Well that’s a workflow game changer. I’m very happy to have some sort of recording of the midi sequences I’ve made with the A4 sequencer, even if it’s got to be converted from audio first. Thanks for the tip!
