A rumination on productivity in a world of constant development

Whatever stands out for you the most as the most enjoyable experience over the past several months (related to music production) pursue that! I doubt it’s trifling banter on here :grinning: that admittedly we all indulge in at times.

… not heard of that band in a long while … got a couple of 7" and their LP in the hand painted sleeve… my cat was sick on it. … the kitty belly acids reacted with the paint to make it even more beautiful …

Yeah man all about that pulsar-23

Brilliant! The hand painted 7 inch thing from the mid to lat 90s was very cool. Going home from gigs with a fresh 7 inch that cost 5 quid. Prolapse, Joeyfat, Scarfo, Placebo before they went shit, Happy times.

aye, ive got stacks of unique little 7" 12" and flexis… brings back good memories.
used to knock about with a few lads from Leicester or ‘lesstoh’ as they used to say… sounded posh to us!.. North west UK.

…i hear u…

always work with with what U GOT!

i only update stuff, if there is really something that can bring my workflow forward…
no matter if it’s a daw…all my computers still run the system they had once they were new…
or if it’s hardware…well ok…all elktron stuff is up to date, but hell no, my a4 mk1 is also still running firmware from 4 years ago…so does my ot mk1…while ot mk2 is freshed up…
see, i even got same machines doing different things…

i run all gear for certain purposes in the way i’m used to them…
anything else would distract me…
so, i can clearly say…if i don’t work sonicwise, the only damned thing that distracts me, is hanging around here…

and hell yeah…knowing ur stuff inside out, is way more alive and kicking than the next update…
i love stuff with what u see is what u get approach…and i admire stuff that does only ONE thing and nothing else…

rock ur town…and enjoy ur musical focus…

I have said this before and I’ll say it again - collecting gear and talking about it and actually making music are two discreet hobbies/professions/activities. Never ever confuse the two.

I think you’re right. Maybe I’ve just made the switch from one to the other.

yes, we essentially are both.

i am Roland MC-707 owner. at the moment, MC-707 does not have song mode / clip chaining capabilities, but since it got MIDI commands for launching clips, i made clip chaining solution myself with Axoloti patch. it took me about a week and was rather interesting than hard.
DIY way is sometimes more effective and less time-consuming than waiting an update from vendor and arguing about desired features on the web.

I think it’s often the methods we use to overcome limitations that make our music uniquely our own.

i guess it’s not about the updates but more or less about the way such updates are presented or happening.

If you catch the Info that a Rytm Mk1 will eventually get midi out but you have to wait like 5 years for that update to happen, you‘re just waiting, especially in a situation where it makes the most sense if the Analog line would put out some midi notes/triggers.

but there’s a difference between waiting for essential bug fixes and waiting for features that weren‘t advertised in the first place.

even tho I like my 2 Neutrons but in a small part of my head I often hope that Behringer will release „channel rotation“ or „round-robin“ voice allocation, where every note triggers a new OSC even if you repeat the note you’re playing.

like 1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3,4 etc
