A question for the filter specialists

This is the right way to think about it. It’s a feature of the circuit. Those filters you reject for cutting the bass might have gorgeous tone/sweeps (e.g. the Moog ladders). Why deny yourself that?

One of the reasons it can be very nice to have a sine wave oscillator which can be patched in parallel to the filter (most modulars obviously, but a favorite trick of mine on the 2600, Hydra can do it too).

I believe the Erica Synths DB-01 Bassline uses a " *Polivoks-inspired" filter and I can attest that it keeps bass frequencies at higher resonance levels.

my serge vcfq and vcfs both keep the bass very nicely at high q settings as well

The filters on Pittsburgh modular Gear let the bass unchanged too. But thé moog style filters are interesting too, you don’t Always need a sound that is full on every frequencies especially whithin a mix context.

It’s even worse. Timbres with frequencies all over the spectrum make it very hard to balance a mix. IMO it’s easier to mix, if roles like kick, pad, leads, bass, tenor, alto, soprano are well separated and don’t overlap too much.
