A Couple of dumb Noob questions

Hi, just trying to get to grips with this beast. Help with a couple of basic queries please

  • If I have sliced a drum loop and set up linear locks I should be able to change the slice assigned to particular step in the sequence. eg. Slice 2 of a 16 slice sequence normally plays on step 2. What if I want slice 5 to play on step 2? I can find reference to the fact that I can p lock each step to whichever slice I want, but no actual instructions as to what buttons to push. I presume I hold down trig 2, but what else do I use to select the new slice??

  • also if I take a 4 bar drum loop and open it in the audio editor with the intent of trimming it to 1 bar I find that if I use the TRIM function as I move the end point of the loop it slows down as I turn knob C. Almost like the knob is controlling the playback speed. Am I missing something here in my understanding? Is this something to do with the tempo of the loop???
I assume that I trim the sample and then save the trimmed 1 bar loop??? How do I trim it when it becomes so slow as to be unuseable??

Thanks for any help.

To p-lock a slice, hold down the step button you want it on and turn the Start parameter knob (on the first track parameter page). If the track is in slice mode, the parameter should show “Slice 1” etc. when you turn it.

My guess regarding your loop slowing down is that with time-stretch turned on, your loop will be stretched according to the sample attributes you have set. So if your loop is set to be 4 bars, and you then move the end point to shorten it, that shorter loop needs to slow down to play over the same 4 bars. So change your attributes to fit the new length or just turn off time-stretch if you don’t need it.

Awesome, thanks dude.
