I agree about listing the gear on the album notes. I had a professor say that, as artists, we can throw a veil over our work, or we can remove that veil. That professor was, for sure, in the camp of pulling off the veil.
I tend to lose focus when reading those kind of statements. I will make an exception for Beethoven. His 6th Pastoral Symphony is a programmatic work. Mvt 1: Awakening of cheerful feelings on arrival in the countryside Mvt. 2: Scene by the brook Mvt. 3: Merry gathering of country folk Mvt. 4: Thunder, Storm Mvt. 5: Shepherd’s song. I take exception for Beethoven, because he clearly wrote it as a programmatic work. Whereas the album notes provided by some contemporary artists seem like an afterthought.
