6/8 Techno

Yes yes this one I heard and couldn’t find, big big tune

weird time signature on the acid line in this… no idea what it is, maybe 12/8 ?
and it sounds fantastic.

I’m no music theory buff, but to me the triplets feel destinctly like 6/8 or 12/8, and not 4/4.
What i find awesome with the track is how the different voices seem to float in and out of sync. gives a real organic twist to the mechanic composition

Nice. This is still 4/4 though. The syncopation makes the groove complicate here.

Uhm wouldn‘t I be counting 123 to a 6/8? I really never looked much into music theory, sorry if I‘m sounding stupid. Triplets in a 4/4, isn‘t it?

I‘m just hearing the kick/snare and immediately think of 4/4 and when I listen to the chord progression I can count to a multiples of 2 (or 4) and not a multiple of 3.

No. This is a common mistake and I think it’s why a lot of the discussion on this thread is little confused.

6/8 is felt 1::2::1::2::

The main beats are the 1s and 2s and the subdivisions are the colons. [edited because the forum software was adding additional punctuation marks!]

I don’t really think of this as music theory. Knowing where the beats and subdivisions sit in music is a feel thing, not a theory thing. I’ve played with many African drummers who are fluent in 6/8 but do not talk about traditional music theory.

The original beat makers :clap:

This is a very clear example of how 6/8 feels: https://youtu.be/KMFH_IudV54

I’m not musically trained, so I can’t tell time signatures, but Surgeon often uses “alternative” rythms in his live sets: https://youtu.be/5BtUlkYXS3o?t=1547
